It's 8:30, 9º, and looking out my window at the lake, I can see four or five hundred Canadian geese spread out along Woodlawn, floating on the water, just beyond the frozen lake. I went to bed listening to their honking and woke up this morning to it. They won't leave until the lake completely freezes. I just looked out and hundreds took off, creating huge V's in the sky yet hundreds remain in front of our house.

On Ice |
Yesterday was the winter solstice, the first day of winter and the shortest day of the year and it felt like it. We were in no hurry to get things done so we had a leisurely morning. Once we decided to get busy, I went out and shoveled the driveway's four for five inches of snow, Evie gathered the trash and I took it to the Transfer Station on a cold, cold morning. When I returned home, she was busy making a few things to take to our daughter Jill's for Christmas, their favorite stuffed shells and an appetizer, hanky pankies.
Saturday Noon |
Once she was done, I helped clean up the kitchen and freeze some of the leftover soup and pasta for another day. For lunch, I had the last of the heavenly hash browns with fried eggs and then took a brief nap while Evie finished up in the kitchen. Around 2:00, we sat down and watched most of the Chiefs/Astros game. By the time it was over, it was dark and time to enjoy a glass of wine as the sky darkened, a few flurries began. It has snowed a couple of inches every day, nothing too substantial but still flurries and a couple of inches total. Evie made one of our favorite go to dinners: lemon chicken with rice and brussel sprouts.
We watched all four episodes of an apocalyptic film on Netflix called La Palma. A family of four is faced with a volcanic eruption that creates a tsunami and must find a way to survive. That lasted until 9:00 and Evie went up to bed so I watched the first half of the Ohio State game as they defeated Tennessee.
