Another Typical Saturday

7:07
Up at 6:00, wrote to my granddaughter Hayden who has just discovered email.  We have written back and forth for the past four days.  I answer her each morning, she responds when she  gets home from school.  I wonder how long it will take for the novelty to wear off.  Her emails are really cute, filled with exclamation points and she signs it, your 'fantastic granddaughter.'  I agree.

Another  great night for sleeping, in the 40's, 48 right now, but it's going in the 80's either Sunday or Monday, supposedly record setting if it happens.  It looks like another great day, the sun almost blinding here in the living room, as I hide behind a wall so I can read.  A few fishing boats on the lake, but lots geese honking, some ducks swimming around, sea gulls circling, looking for food.

I just was listening to ONLY A GAME on NPR and they talked about the craze for crew in Cleveland on the Cuyahoga River, and mentioned that they (Cleveland) will be hosting the national crew championships next September.  There website also had some cool pictures of boats on the river, with huge freighters in the background.  It would be neat if Tyler's Fairfield Prep team qualified for it.  I know they do travel to some of these races.

Leonards are leaving tomorrow, so we had them over for dinner last night, breaded, broiled tilapia, broccoli and raisin salad, parslied potatoes, and homemade biscuits and brownies, a great meal.  They are somewhat reluctant to head home because it's still so nice here, but they have lots to do in Valley Forge since they haven't been back since June.  We will miss them.

Since Ron and Linda head back to Murraysville on Monday, they have asked us over for dinner tonight, which should be fun.  It means Evie has the day off from cooking and we get a great meal, perhaps a camp fire at there house after dinner.  A day to look forward to, nothing that has to be done, lots of sun, a beautiful lake, and dinner with friends.

And tomorrow, if we like, since we are now members of the Rod and Gun, we can head off there for dinner, chicken and biscuits every Sunday.  Yum.  Must remember to leave my hat at home.

It's now just 11:00 and we have just returned from a walk through Dobbins Woods, about a ten minute drive from our house.  It was a lovely morning walk, cool, dappled trees, though not much color as the forest is mostly evergreens.  Still, it's invigorating to walk in the morning, the earlier the better.  I am just starting Ann Patchett's STATE OF WONDER, which has gotten rave reviews.  Evie just finished and was lukewarm on it, so I am not sure I will like it much, but I will give it a try.

This afternoon was something different from almost any other Saturday; we literally spent the day out on the dock, enjoying the sun, the warmth, the lake, sky, the light breeze, the day, about the best we have had all year.  There's nothing like a beautiful fall day, the colors are so crisp, the air crisp and new, and nothing we have had to do.  We are off to Mc Clure's tonight.  O, yea, we did take a final boat ride, off to Bemus and back along the bay, enjoying the colors of the trees, as we were in no hurry to get home.
And, EVIE SWAM TODAY!
