Back In The Groove

It's just about 7:00 on a chilly, sunny, 48º morning and it's always great to be back on the lake, no matter where were have been. I admit to loving routine, sameness, my bed, couch, and life here at the lake. And though we had a fun weekend, home is best. It's 8:55 and I was out for close to an hour, over to Long Point, across to Sandy Bottom, and home, on a lovely morning for a paddle.

We left Virginia at 8:00, having said our goodbyes to Jill and the girls the night before since they sleep in. We had a six to seven-hour drive ahead of us, one we have taken many times over the past ten years. We always stop at the Shenandoah Market, about an hour from Bristow, and get gas, $3.15 a gallon and fruit, this time a basket of peaches. We stopped in Berkeley Springs, WV, for breakfast. We avoided Breezewood because of the construction, taking RT 30 to 99 and Altoona. The ride through Pennsylvania is hilly and this time was loaded with trucks and it rained off and on. One time we were at a standstill, as we were going up hills there were a number of trucks ahead of us. Once we got to Warren, forty-five minutes from home, we did something we never do: we stopped at Burger King, sat in the restaurant and got whoppers,  Golden age crazy.

Driving In The Rain

We were home around 3:00 and all was well, the house, and the garden and we even received an inch of rain, greening up the lawn, bushes, and garden. Once we unpacked, we adjourned to couches, Evie in the TV room, and me in the living room. We had a glass of wine around 5:30, then, because neither of us was very hungry (the whoppers), we had scrambled eggs, a salad, and rolls. And we are back on schedule, watching ER and The Americans, and the first quarter of the NBA finals. For some reason, I got bored with the game, as neither team was playing well, sloppy and turnovers,  and the officiating was terrible so I went up to bed. Spoiler alert: the Nuggets won.
