Clearing Up

7:35

8:26

It's just after 7:00, a vast cloud bank hangs over the Bemus shore, the sky blue above.  It's 61º and it looks like it should be a nice day, lots of sun in the morning, clouding up mid-afternoon. It's 8:50 as I finish this after a good forty-five-minute paddle.  Time to get ready for yoga and our floor installer will begin tearing out the rest of our kitchen floor this morning, a fun day.

Kayak Morning

Monday morning was busy, as the day started with a good paddle, then the blog and breakfast and getting ready for a drive to Erie, PA.  We were on our way by 10:00, stopped at Peach Street to return Evie's Hoka shoes at the Shoefly Store.  We then drove to Presque Isle, a peninsula that runs out into Lake Erie from the city of Erie. It's a marvelous State Park with some of the best inland beaches in the United States and an asphalt path that runs around the entire peninsula.

Lake Erie

We parked at Beach #8 and I had brought along my bike, so I left Evie at the beach to walk and enjoy the sun while I biked around the shoreline of Presque Isle.  I biked for ten miles, close to an hour of riding while Evie walked the beach.  We then thought about staying for a swim but decided we would rather head home.  We stopped at our favorite nursery, Stan's on the east side of Erie, browsed briefly and headed home.

We were home by 2:00 and I had soup and hummus for lunch and watched some TV before falling asleep on the couch reading, worn out from our big morning adventure. Neither of us had much energy the rest of the afternoon and just sat around enjoying the day either outside in the yard or inside reading on the couch or porch.  Around 4:00, I took another bite of the fall elephant and put away the benches from our dock and all the plastic and metal chairs we use during the summer.

We relaxed with a glass of wine until 6:30 when Evie made our dinner, BLT's, which always hit the spot to use a cliche.  We watched an intense new film on Netflix, The Guilty starring Jake Gyllenhall.  He plays a troubled police officer, manning a 911 call center. The film takes place in the call center as Gyllenhaal attempts to halt an abduction. We liked it.  We ended the night, sadly, with Matt Amodio's loss on Jeopardy, ending a 38-day win streak.
