A 18º morning with gray skies, frozen lake, snow-covered lawn. A few ice fishermen are out but I would have expected more on President's Day. Unlike other President's Day, today seems like any other day as most kids are not in school, most parents are working from home or out of work, the new normal.
Happy Valentine's Day |
We did not do much different yesterday despite the fact it was Valentine's Day, having celebrated it the night before. So yesterday we had a normal Sunday at least for us, with no hurry, with lots of time to listen to Jake Tapper and Fareed Zakaria as we had our coffee and finished the blog. I suggested a walk at the Chautauqua Institution but Evie thought it would be much nicer to snowshoe/ski at Long Point. She was correct. We arrived there around 11:30 and were surprised by two things, the trails seemed to have been groomed and there were only two or three others out on this partly sunny Sunday morning. We still cannot figure out where everyone was. Church? Shopping? Bemus Point Inn? We were out for an hour, trekked two miles, and worked up a sweat, having dressed too warm despite the temperature in the teens.
When were returned, Evie fried up some mashed potatoes into cakes and made an omelet with the leftover Bob Evans sausage and tomatoes. And we watched CBS Sunday Morning, our Sunday morning fixture. We then had the afternoon to ourselves, having gotten in our workout and having nothing else we had to do other than dinner. I am enjoying my Danish noir, The Tenant, although I fell asleep while reading. Evie was happy to relax after a busy Saturday of cooking.
The afternoon went quickly and we were surprised at how quiet the lake was, with just a few ice fishermen and snowmobiles. Around 6:00, Evie put together our dinner, a marinated filet of salmon, wedge salad, spinach, and cauliflower rice. It tasted good, a nice change and we caught up on a couple of shows, Real Time With Bill Maher and SNL. We did not feel like starting a movie or new series so we watched a Hometown and two episodes of Better Things. Oof!
