A COLD, COLD MONDAY MORNING

In To The Deep

An early, cold, and gray morning with an inch or two of snow overnight. I just observed a light moving out onto the lake, an ice fisherman, at 6:30 , the coldest morning of the year, 8º.

Sunday was different for us because of the weather, constant light snow most of the morning, and on and off during the day.  We had our coffee, wrote the blog but then decided we ought to get outside and cross country ski while it was still snowing. I am lucky to have such an enthusiastic partner to ski with because she is always game to get out there, despite the weather.  So we layered up in preparation for the 14º weather and were off by 10:00.

Loving The Cold And Snow

The Sun

We were smart enough to ski north into the wind and made it only as far as the campground because of the bitter wind.  We turned around and with the wind at our back, we skied back and forth in front of Victoria and Woodlawn.  We were out for about forty-five minutes until Evie's skis started to freeze up, making it difficult to glide.  It snowed the entire time we were out and we loved it, the winter of it.

Neighbors Sking On Saturday

Saturday At Long Point

We cleaned the snow off our skis, put them in the car, and couldn't wait to get in the warm house. Evie then made breakfast because we were both hungry, fried eggs and her black bread toasted.  And because we were still hungry, we both had a piece of her apple pie for dessert.  That was it for most of the afternoon.  We watched CBS Sunday Morning and then I read and napped.  I finally finished my novel, Pachinko, and really liked it, a saga of four generations of Koreans, beginning in Korea during the Japanese occupation, ending in Japan in the 1990s.  Most of the afternoon, however, we were waiting for the late afternoon when we would be heading to our friends for a Super Bowl get-together of four.

We had a fun time at Linda and Ron's, lots of good food and of course, libations, starting with Linda's special Bloody Mary's, then loaded potato skins, chips and dip, deviled eggs, ending with Reubens and macadamia cookies. The game was disappointing, at least for KC fans, as Tampa Bay dominated on both offense and defense. We stayed the course, driving home in a light snow on empty but safe roads.
