The Joy Of A Leisurely Saturday Morning

7:21

7:22

This Morning

It's 8:15 and both of us are up, listening to NPR, watching a few birds, mostly cardinals, feed at the feeder in our front window.  It's nice to see a couple of birds finally feeding, usually a couple of cardinals and chickadees.  The lake already seems crowded with fishing tents just off of Long Point.  The reason, it's warming up to, at the moment, a balmy 16º.

Black Capped Chickadee
It's becoming easy to remind myself of what I did the previous day, mostly because it does not change much, as I am a creature of habit, like most, stuck in a routine.  So I drove off to yoga at 9:00, after coffee and writing the blog.  I stopped for a coffee afterward, talked with a couple of locals about the local birds, then stopped to get my car washed.  When I  came down to Woodlawn, the road was blocked by a couple of trucks, idiots, who were supposedly checking out the house and docks at Mary Ann's house that had just be sold in the last month.  Finally, I turned around and drove on the upper road to our house.

When I  walked in, Evie was dressed and ready to drive to the Y for her walk and had a schnitzel sandwich ready for me.  I heated up the mushroom barley soup and had a good lunch.  I watched, what else, FNL, read some of my Lake Erie book, tres depressing by the way, then napped until 2:30 when Evie came home.

Late Afternoon Shadows
Our only problem the rest of the afternoon concerned where we were going for a fish fry.  Finally, Pal Joey's in Jamestown won out over Alexanders in Findley Lake.  We left just before 6:00, with the sky a brilliant orange in the Western sky, wondering if we would find a seat at the bar.

Western Sky at 6:00 from Cheney Farm
We were happy to see it was half empty, settled in and were pleased to see that the bartender was Jenna, who served us the last time we were there.  We also know her as the Boat Lift Lady, her job during spring, summer and fall.  She owns and drives a barge with a crane on the front which enables her to pull a boat lift off the shore and place it in the water near a homeowner's dock.  She grew up helping her Dad with this business and took it over when he retired.  She is full of energy despite having had a daughter four months ago and was fun to talk with as we ate our fried fish, onion rings, fries, and drank a couple of beers.  It was fairly quiet for a Friday night which surprised us although it's more of a dive bar than a classy bar or restaurant.  Still, it has good food, is famous for their Long Island wings, and we enjoyed.

When we headed home, it was a frigid 2º. To our surprise, it was only7:45  when we drove in our parking area.  We had plenty of TV time as a  result, watching a Colbert and lots of The Great English Baking Show before bed.  An so it goes.
