A Busy Afternoon On The Lak |
|
9:25 |
It's 7:50 and I have been up for an hour, listening for the first time to a podcast from the NYTimes about their recent on the record interview with the President. Interesting. Outside it's back to the normal, gray sky, white, snow-covered lake with fishing tents strewn over its surface. The polar vortex must have gone missing because temperatures were in the 40's yesterday, the same today, thus the Drip.

Four Wheeler's Arrive |
Yesterday it seemed like a Winter Festival was happening on the lake because of the warmer weather, the sunshine, and the blue skies. The lake around Long Point actually seemed crowded, with fishing tents, people out for a hike, with snowmobiles and four-wheelers racing by, on their way home. We had our usual Saturday morning, a long coffee clutch for two until it was time to gather the trash, clean out the refrigerator and take a drive to the Transfer Station. Once our chores were done, Evie wanted to give cross country skiing a try so I went up to the attic and pulled down her skis and poles and by 11:00, we were out on the lake, the first time for her in a year. She smartly took it easy and stayed out for only a half hour, but she did well and loved being back on the lake. What a gal.

Essence Of Evie |
When we came back, it was lunch time for both of us. Both Evie and I had a bowl of mushroom barley soup and she also made me a schnitzel sandwich, with mayo and tomatoes. Yum. I watched some basketball but soon tired of it and changed the channel to another episode of Friday Night Lights, less about football recently and more about various family relationships. Neither of us had an interest in going somewhere in the afternoon, so we did what we do best, read, take a nap or watch some TV.

Loving His Safflower Seeds |
Around 4:00, I decided to join the crowd on the lake and put on my skis and cross country skied down to Sandy Bottom and back. I was out for forty-five minutes, worked up a sweat, and talked briefly with a family out for a hike on the lake.

Lake Time For All |
It was wine time when I returned and Evie made us some guacamole to go along with Fritos, love them. Two things bother me about Fritos. One we rarely buy them, two they are so expensive compared to chips. Why?

Just Before Dusk |
Before our wine time, Evie had put together one of our favorite dinners, Greek Lemon chicken, so while we were enjoying our appetizers, the chicken was in the oven baking. We had the lemon chicken with rice around 7:15 and watched a disappointing Real Time With Bill Maher, too much blabber. We then watched a series set in Maine where a family renovates cabins in isolated areas of Maine. Evie was tired so she went up to bed early so I watched part of #1 ranked Tennessee play. I was anxious, however, to get back to a new book, Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie novel, ONE GOOD TURN. I loved her LIFE AFTER LIFE and A GOD IN RUINS.
