Once More To The Lake

Dinner With the Bottiny's
It's early for sure, 6:00, and Jill and Hayden are both up as well, coffee's on, and everyone will be on their way by 7:30, Jill to the gym before work, Hayden and Halle to school, Evie and I on our way back to Chautauqua.  It's been fun here in Virginia, lots of time with the girls and Jill and we got to see Drew for a couple of nights as well before he left for Ukraine.  And we got to see my sister and her husband on siblings day.  Wow.
Halle, The Sous Chef, Stacking Crepes
Yesterday was catch up day for the girls, sleeping in then spending a good part of the day doing homework, especially Hayden who likes to get ahead.  Evie and Halle were busy in the kitchen, however, getting dinner ready for later in the day when my sister, Ellen, and her husband, Walt, were coming over for dinner.  The chicken needed to be marinated for four or five hours in yogurt, garlic, etc. so that was their first task.  Then the fun began as Evie had found a recipe for a Mille Crepe cake, made up of 15-20 layers of crepes, with a custard in between.  So Halle beat up the eggs, milk, flour, and maple syrup and let it sit for an hour.  They then got out the crepe pan and made the crepes.  They then put together the custard with milk, eggs, cream and more maple syrup.  Then Halle frosted a crepe with the custard, then put the next crepe on top, more custard until she was out of crepes.  Evie then put it in the refrigerator and dinner and dessert were done for the most part, other than the making of a salad, which Halle did, and making some rice.

A Hawk In  Jill's Woods
We then relaxed until 4:00 when Ellen and Walt arrived from Herndon.  It was great to see them and the girls stayed downstairs with us because they had gotten their homework done.  We sat around and talked, watched the Masters occasionally, had crackers with a great cheese until it was time for dinner.  Evie and Halle had set the table earlier, so it looked smashing.  The lemon chicken was flavorful and moist, the salad great, tasty rice, yummy broccoli so dinner was a success.  But the hit of the evening was the crepe cake, moist and delicious, sweet enough but not too much so.

Mille Crepe Cake
Ellen and Walt stayed until 7:00 when we ran out of movies and TV series to recommend and talk about.  They always keep up on the series on Netflix and have recommended some great series for us to watch like DICTE and OCCUPIED. After they left, Jill and I went out and played some volleyball with Halle who is always excited to play pepper.

The girls were tired and were upstairs getting showers and hanging out in their bedrooms by 8:30, so Jill, Evie and I sat around talking and watching some junk TV until it was time to go to bed.  Since we are leaving tomorrow after dropping Halle off at school, we have some repacking to do.
