Warming Up (To 30º)

Early Morning Fishing
Still Standing

Snow Covered Cairn
It's just turned 8:00 and Weekend Edition Sunday has just come on.  I had been listening to Fresh Air, an interview with one of my favorite crime novelists, George Pelecanos.  Most of his novels are set in the Washington, DC area, with lots of references to basketball, to the city game, to the hoods and cops that complicate the life.  He also was a writer for one of my favorite TV series, The Wire.  At the moment, it's 18º out, no snow forecast, perhaps a day to go for a hike or walk.  A couple guys are out fishing again, same place, just off of Long Point and four more are out near the Long Point Pavilion. No colors in the sky this morning, other than a hint of rouge where the sun should have risen except for the heavy cloud cover.

Yesterday was like living at the North Pole except for the fact we were in a warm, cosy house.  The temperature were in single digits much of the day although it was sunny with a blue sky, making it exceedingly difficult to do anything outdoors.  So it took all my courage, my mojo, my coats, mufflers, hats and gloves to gather all the trash, throw it in the back of my Pilot and drive off to the Transfer Station, for the weekly transfer of my trash to their trucks and pods.  Watching the guys work out in this weather gave me a new admiration for what we used to call 'garbage men' in my youth. Fortunately, it looked like they took turns sitting in the truck, warming up.
Turkish Tea Time

View From My Couch
That was it for the day. other than watching a few minutes of the Ohio State/Indiana basketball game, listening to my music library much of the afternoon, reading, sipping tea and taking a nap.  Evie watched Olive Kitteridge again on HBO, as we both waited for the NFL games to go on at 4:30.  At, kickoff, I cracked open a beer, got out the chips and onion dip, and for the next four or five hours we watched too much football but what else was there to do?  As red blooded Americans, aren't we supposed to watch the playoffs, getting us ready for the major sporting event of the year in February, the Super Bowl.
Shadows Begin To Take Over The Lake
We did take time at 6:30, as Evie made another delicious dinner, scallops in a sauce of dry vermouth, garlic, shallots, and lemon juice, served with pasta.  Yum.  Always one of our favorite dinners.  By the time the second game game on, we were sick of football but so addicted to it that we alternated watching plays with the Property Brothers, a home make over show we have come to enjoy.  Around 10:00, we had enough of both, so we went upstairs to bed, to read and fall asleep exhausted from hours of watching football.
