Back To Normal: Yoga, Hiking, Cross Country Skiing

7:41

Crossing The Bridge Near The Atheneum
It's not so early, just after 8:00 and I have been up for about forty five minutes.  It's 31º outside and we got another five or six inches of snow last night. Surprise.  We may get another couple of inches during the day but it should be no big deal.  I have yoga at 9:30, a dental appointment at 2:30 so it's back to normal, yoga and doctor's appointments.
First Hike Of 2015
Around 10:30, we decided to don our winter jackets, put on our winter stabilizer cleats, get out our walking poles, and walk the grounds at the Chautauqua Institution.  It was a perfect temperature, just under 20º, with no wind, so we were both excited to be out once again in the winter air and take a walk, something we have not been able to do in a couple of weeks.  The Chautauqua Institution was surprisingly quiet, as we saw not a soul for most of the walk, not even a car.  I assume some were in church but it was strangely silent and empty on a pretty nice morning to be outside after a few days of frigid temperatures.  We took our time, paused for various photographs, and we were out for an hour and a half, longer than usual.

We did not get home until 12:15, so guess what?  Time for Sunday breakfast, eggs, bacon, toast and this time, coffee made in my new coffee pot, just enough for two cups.  Nothing like a hearty breakfast after a brisk winter walk.  We watched a hurry up version of CBS Morning, loving the part on the cut out art of Matisse, seemingly something a kindergarten kid might do until you looked closely and saw how magical the results are.  It can now be viewed at the MOMA in NYC.  At 1:00, we began the Sunday football marathon, interrupted briefly for chips and dip, then Evie's putting together a pot roast dinner, so that the aromas of the cooking pot roast would meld with the football watching, chip and dip eating.

In between games, I decided to see what it was like cross country skiing in our neighborhood, so I put on my skis and was out for about twenty minutes, checking on my new skis and boots, go as far as the end of the campground and back.  The lake is too slushy beneath the two or three inches of snow otherwise I would have been out there.  It doesn't look like we will be on the lake for awhile because of the layer of insulation which creates the slush.  It felt good to be on my skis again, and I cannot wait for a snowy morning.

We were excited about the night's TV, the Golden Globe Awards, so we had to DVR both The Good Wife and Downton Abbey for Monday night before the Ohio State game.  And of course, Evie DVR-ed the red carpet before the Golden Gloves, so we could meet all the celebrities in their gowns and tuxedos, the highlight of the night.   We will miss Joan Rivers on Fashion Police tonight but Kathy Griffin will be interesting to watch.  I have to admit that I am overdosing on football this weekend but it happens only once a year. I prefer these games to the Super Bowl with all its hype.

We had our pot roast at half time of the Bronco/Colts game, a perfect dinner for a Sunday night of football, fashion and music awards.  We switched back and forth between the game and the Red Carpet, noticing how all the men seemed to have their one hand on their wives/girls ass as they were interviewed...must be the new, new thing to do.  I will have go keep it in mind during the next cocktail party.  And about 8:40, it was on to the DVR-ed Golden Globes, so we could skip through many of the advertisements, not all, as we ran out of time.  It was an entertaining night, lots of humor and a couple of series we liked ran away with quite a few awards, Fargo and The Affair.  Both are new this year, one of the reasons why they won so many awards.  We did not get to bed until 11:30, which was fine because we both went right to sleep.
