Breakfast With Our Grandson at Dartmouth, Hiking Ogunquit Trail, Then On to Cape Elizabeth

Killington, Vermont
Green Mountains On Road From Rutland to Woodstock
It's a wet day in Woodstock, but warm, and I am up early as usual, but I have my coffee and am waiting for Evie and Mac to join me.  It rained most of the night, as I could hear the rain falling on the roof of Mac's condo here in Woodstock, Vermont.

Yesterday's drive was just what we expected, nine hours of muted colors because of the rain and fog most of the way but around Albany we started to see some light, but when we got to Vermont, it cleared up some, so we could see the amazing colors in all their glory.  And we were on divided highways through all of the state of New York and it was only when we got on RT 4 around Rutland, Vermont that the road began a two lanes as it wended its way through the mountains.  The road was surprisingly busy but it was around 4:00, so lots of people must have been heading home from work.  We got to Mac's just before 5:00, a neat set of condos set back in the woods off the main road leading into Woodstock.  Mac was there at the door to greet us.  We got settled, then Mac gave us a tour of his condo because he had just gotten new cherry floors, and the bathrooms were completely redone.  The apartment is perfect for Mac, and exhibits his flair for decorating.  We both love his kitchen with a cherry island, a great view of the woods.  We sat around till about 5:30 then drove in to Woodstock because they have a Farmer's Market on Wednesday afternoons.  Both food and the typical crafts were for sale. We bought some brie made locally and we ran into Teddy, a local kid who lives near Mac, and gave him a ride home to his farm.  We met him and his family the last time we were here and they were just recovering from a major flood that did in their farm.  A neat family, they have a farm with all kinds of animals, a garden, and Mac bought some eggs.

After dropping Teddy off, we came back to Mac's, broke out the cheese, opened a bottle of wine and settled down in the living room, tired but happy to be in Woodstock.  Around 7:30, we drove off to Mac's favorite restaurant, The Prince and the Pauper, in Woodstock.  He's a regular there, so everyone knows Mac.  We met a friend of Mac's, Veronica, a potter, there, and the four of us sat down to a great dinner.  The P & P was crowded which was nice to see on a Wednesday.  They have two menus, a three course dinner menu and a cheaper Bistro menu.  We all ordered from the Bistro and the food and service were as expected...perfect.  We stayed and talked until around 9:45. Veronica is an interesting woman, has lived here in Vermont for thirty five years, both decorating pottery and teaching Italian to keep her busy.

We got home around 10:15, very tired from our day and after helping Mac grind the coffee, we all went to bed, a great start to our voyage to the East!
