The Lake, Shades of Gray, The Air, Heavy With Humidity

Monday Afternoon Rainbow

Up around 6:30, a close morning at a quiet lake, a mist shadowing the shorelines.  It's 66º out, lots of rain yesterday, heavy thundershowers predicted for the afternoon.  I will take it if we have weekends like this past fourth of July.

It was good to get back to yoga yesterday morning after a five day hiatus and others must have felt that way because we had a large class, mostly regulars with a few drop ins.  It was warm and humid enough to work up a sweat.  When I got home, Evie was ready to do some errands towards Mayville, so I made my lunch, a leftover burger and potato salad and missed not having a World Cup game to watch during lunch.  The semi finals are today and tomorrow at 3:00 if anyone is interested.

Around 2:00 Evie returned and spent the next couple of hours in the kitchen because it was raining on and off outside and she had her mojo back.  So, she put together two or three batches of Ina Garten's fabulous meatball recipe and froze them for late July when our families arrive.  Once they were done, she fried up some chicken for dinner, something I wanted...nothing like fried chicken with coleslaw.

It cleared up around 6:00 and we were both hot,  Evie from working in the kitchen, me from cleaning it up, so we decided to swim in between rain showers, when the sun popped out. The neighbors grand kids jumped in with us and Evie and I played with them for about a half hour, until the rain began to pelt the water's surface.  We then sat on our porch, having a beer, watching it rain and until we were ready for dinner, about 7:30.  The chicken, cole slaw, and potato salad were just what we we wanted, an indoor picnic.  We watched a couple of more episodes of Orange Is The New Black, then 24, which is becoming increasingly confusing, with lots of gratuitous shoot em ups, especially since we know Jack will always win.  I was happy to get back to my book, THE SILKWORM,  and Evie to hers, Kent Haruf's second novel, EVENTIDE.
