A Clearing Sky, a Chilly Morning -- Vikings Ingjald Lodge No. 65

Celebrating Jackie's 87th birthday at the Viking Club
5:53 a.m.
Up at 5:45, the sun yet to rise above the eastern shoreline, the sky clear except for a narrow bank of clouds over Long Point, and it's cooler because we have had lots of rain over the past twenty four hours.  Trees and power lines are down in the surrounding areas; fortunately, we were spared any major wind damage, no power shortages.

Yesterday Evie was busy early, working in the kitchen even before I left for yoga at 9:00.  She was making another batch of shells, had them done, packed in ready to freeze by the time I got home at 11:00.  She then drove off to the dentist, then off to where else, Wegman's to pick up more shells and spinach for the next batch of shells on Thursday.  We packed away everything, then sat in the house because of he heavy rains, me waiting for the World Cup to begin, Evie relaxing, watching it rain, enjoying some leisure.  The World Cup proved to be the game of the century, as Germany beat Brazil at home 7-1, no game, really, as the German's completely dominated, and by the mid point, the Brazilians were so demoralized that the game was lost in the first 15 minutes.  The announcers were really amusing, with their descriptions of the inept and lifeless play of the Brazilians, contrasted with their wonder at the amazing play of the Germans.  Anyways, it was a fun  game to watch, as rarely do you see two great teams, where one so totally dominates the other.

Pouring Rain at 3:37
It rained hard on and off during the afternoon, in between brief respites of sun, much like yesterday.  At  6:00, the sun came out and we went over and picked up our soon (tomorrow) to be eight seven year old neighbor, Jackie Riek, to take her out to the Viking Club because it was Taco Tuesday.  She offered to sponsor our membership in the Viking Club four years ago, and we had asked if she would also sponsor our friends, the McClures, which she was happy to do.  We decided to meet them, with Jackie, at the club, and we had a great time, four of us downing a couple of pitchers of Yeungling, Jackie a couple of vodka martinis, with olives, like my Dad, so we were all having a great time.

Jackie was born in Jamestown so she knows the area well, as a teen, growing up, as a Mom and Grandmother. In fact, Jackie's father built their house on Woodlawn back in the late 1920's, I think. She regaled us with stories of her life, growing up summers here at the lake, as well as living in Cleveland, and entertained us most  of the evening.  And she has a great memory and sense of humor.  The girls ordered taco salads, the guys tacos, just enough for the night.  We stayed till about 8:30 and parted great friends, as we all got to know each other much better.  We really had not talked with Jackie at any great length, just at Woodlawn parties, so it was fun for us to get to know her better.  And she really liked Ron and Linda, so it was another good evening at the Viking Club.

We got home around 9:00, watched some TV for an hour of so before heading up to bed to read.  Let's hope we have a little more sunshine tomorrow.
