Stillness At Chautauqua Lake

5:16
5:17
Both of us are up early, a gray morning, made majestic by the stillness, not a ripple on the lake, a wave of a leaf, just the sounds of purple martins mar the morning air.  Not much color early, shades of  blue and dark, dark green, almost black, smudges on dark on the gray, motionless lake.  I love it.  And a gaggle of geese, parents and babies, just floated by our lake wall.
 A Gaggle, at 6:11
More Geese at 6:12
Yesterday was more cleaning, getting ready for summer outside, as there is always something to do both in and out.  Evie did heavy duty cleaning upstairs early, deep cleaning our bedroom moving furniture, taking screens out, washing windows.  It took a good part of the morning.  Around 10:30, we drove off to do some major shopping, the first since we returned from Virginia late Saturday.  We hit Sam's, to pick up a rotisserie chicken for dinner, then to Wegman's for a major shopping event. Monday's are quiet days for some reason probably because the store has yet to get it's major shipment for the week and they are out of some things, usually fruit or vegetables.

For lunch, I bought a sub from Wegman's, pricey but enough for a couple of days because they cut it in quarters.  The rest of the afternoon, we continued our cleaning though I worked outside, getting the buoy's out in the lake, making our swimming areas, and we also potted some herbs, mostly basil and Italian parsley, the two we tend to use the most.    It was a nice afternoon, though humid, enough to work up a sweat outside.  Evie and Joyce, our neighbor, sat on our front porch, catching up on things since last September.

Late afternoon, we sat out on our porch with a glass of sauvignon blanc, our white wine of choice, as the lake changed colors, the sun beginning to hide behind our trees.  Not much action on the lake this time of the year, as June seems to be the best month on the lake.  We ate chicken, salad, and french fries for dinner, and caught up on some of the shows we had missed from last week.  We were both tired so we went to bed around 10:00, early for us.

It's still overcast at 6:30, with some dampness outside, perhaps from a brief shower, and some fog on the lake now,  though it's supposed to clear up later this morning.
