Morning After A Storm

Pre Dawn Sky at 5:27

6:02, RisingSun
A Fine Morning
Well, it was 5:15 when I finally got up out of bed, awake it seemed for quite a while.  Though the sun had not risen, the pre dawn sky was light blue, with slashes of pink, a very different morning sky. Now, at 6:20, the sun's risen, the sky partly cloudy, and it's a cool 55ยบ.  It looks like a nice day, especially later.

Late yesterday afternoon, early evening, we had heavy rains, an inch and a half to be precise, flooding our roads and yards though things look fine this morning, and the lake does not look appreciably higher despite the rains.

Yesterday until mid afternoon, was a sunny, warm day.  We knew a storm was brewing off to the west so we got busy early.  Evie worked for a couple of hours in her garden, getting it in shape, lots of overgrown sections, as the flowers try to find their place.  I worked on the back porch, taking down our winter canvas porch covering, a sure sign of summer, watching some of the French Open, then moving out all the furniture and vacuuming the porch before reordering it.  I also brought some of the screens down, washed them, put them in the windows.  O, yea, I took a stab at our attic, putting all our winter items in plastic storage boxes, the skis, poles, and snow shoes, up out of the way, in the rafters.  At least we can now move in it, get to the air conditioners which go in the bedrooms today.  Just before the rains, Evie cut the yard one more time, and I finished weeding along the flower beds.
Late Afternoon
About 2:30, our neighbors, Bill and Joyce Leonard, arrived from Valley Forge, PA, for the summer. Fortunately, the rains let up some, so when we helped them unpack and bring all their clothes, shoes, kitchen utensils and food in.  We were able to get their car unpacked and everything in the house, or upstairs in the closets in 15 minutes.  They are both excited to finally be back, more than ready to enjoy their 40th summer on Chautauqua Lake.
Fighting Winds and Rain At Bemus Point
The rest of the afternoon, Evie worked on pictures selecting pictures for a memory book of last summer,  and I read until it was time to shower, get ready for our dinner out with the McClures.  Our plan was to enjoy the setting sun on the Lenhart Porch, then go to the Seezurh House for fish fry's. When we got to Bemus, it was pouring, the wind buffeting the empty rocking chairs on their porch, so we went inside, sat at the bar, had a couple of Old Vienna's and talked with a couple of locals.  Sitting inside always reminds me, for some reason, of having a beer with my parents, listening to Jimmy, the now deceased bartender, tapes of Big Band Music.  After a beer, we drove over to the Seezurh only to discover the downstairs restaurant is closed on Sundays, thwarted again.  Ever resourceful, our driver, Ron thought of Guppy's so off we went, and sat at their the bar for about 15 minutes, until we got one of the two tables in the small bar.  None of us ordered fish fry's, as the burgers are too good to pass up.  I did, however, order something called a meatball float, basically meat balls on a french roll, with tomato sauce.  All our meals were good, and we stayed until about 9:00, when we drove home in the rain.  Evie was tired and went up to bed, but I stayed up and watched the third quarter of the NBA finals, when Lebron took over, passed on the 4th quarter, and went upstairs to read before falling asleep.
