Every Day Is The Same

Up later than usual, around 7:15, the sky and lake gray off to the east, something I had better get used to, as I have mentioned numerous times.  It's been this way every morning now for a week, not even a streak of light in the morning, no blue sky, just gray clouds.  It is colder this morning, 30 degrees and it felt cold when I went out to get the paper.  Strangely, the wind seems to be coming from the south, the waves breaking towards the north. We will have to see what today brings.

Yesterday was another overcast day but no rain except for a few drops early morning.  Again, we stayed inside most of the day, no big walks or hikes, no energy unless you call watching the political shows a sign of vigor.  Like most Americans, we are keenly interested in the election, worry about the results, and our moods go up and down depending on the day, on the poll, in fact, on the time of day since everything seems to change.  Evie keeps putting on Fox News, which instantly depresses me, as they have polls showing Romney winning.  They keep harping on Ben Ghazi, how our government lied, whereas the other channels never mention it.  It makes it abundantly clear that what the media chooses to talk about influences the way we see.  If you watch Fox, it's an entirely different world depicted from let's say NPR or ABC news.  Who is more accurate, I leave it up to the individual to decide.  You know how I feel.

I will say it makes me proud to be American as I watch people stand in lines for hours and this has been going on for days, just to vote.  I wonder if I would be so patient.  It makes me want to jump in a car, drive to the polling spot, and pass out food and stand in line for people in case they need to use a rest room.  Just imagine what it's like for a senior who has to wait for hours.  And I am not proud to watch how various states have gone out of their way to limit voting, to make it difficult for people to vote, by limiting early voting because they fear the results if they let the 'underclass' vote.  We, as a country, need to make voting day every four years a NATION HOLIDAY, which many countries do.  That way all voters would not fear losing a job or wages because they want to vote.  How simple, how logical, how impossible with this Congress.  Evie and I voted early via absentee voting, so easy.  And voting her in North Harmony is exceptionally easy, as we have so few people that you never have to wait in line.

Around 4:00 both Evie and I were stir crazy so we went out, powered up dueling lawn mowers and within 45 minutes had cut both ours and Leonard's yards, getting them ready for the winter.  They look great, leafless (yes, we need to keep nature's abundance in order), ready for the snow.  It felt good to be outside, the crisp air, the gray sky, the smell of mulched leaves and grass.  Cannot wait till spring!

For dinner, Evie had one of her favorites, breaded tilapia, and I made my Mom's clam linguine. W e watched the news till we could stand it no longer.  We then went to Netflix, where we have been watching the first season of Parenthood, the story of a dysfunctional family.  There are cliches, some soppy scenes but it also rings true and can be quite touching.  A great cast, and the kids are wonderful, so believable, especially the young autistic son.  It's worth watching.
