Once More to Chautuaqua Lake

Well, it's early morning, and we are packed, ready to head back to the lake, alas, after four great days here in Darien with the Albarrans.  Our car is filled with lots of food stuff, from our shopping trips but not much else.  It's 50 degrees here, close to freezing in Chautauqua.  If we are lucky, Evie's geraniums will have survived.

Yesterday was a full day in Darien, as everyone was home for once.  We mostly hung around the house, watching TV, going for walks, things like that as the kids just wanted to relax on their day off.  Tyler  had a college tutor come by to help him with his college applications. Our one excursion was to REI, where Evie picked out a pair of hiking boots for the winter, then on to Costco, where Rami picked up groceries for the week.  It's an amazing store, with so many deals that you always go in there and end up buying something you never really wanted but could not pass up.

The major task of the day was the making of Evie's sticky buns, a must when we visit as the kids have come to expect them.  They take quite awhile to make, as they have to rise twice, then are baked with a syrup, to give them their sweetness.  Needless to say, they were great and were devoured the minute they came out of the oven.  Fortunately, she made close to three dozen so there are still some left this morning. Later in the afternoon, Beth and Marisa helped a friend of Beth's daughter with her volleyball skills.  Rami went for a bike ride but got a flat (for the third time in a week), so I drove to New Canaan to pick him up.  His bike broke so he is using a rental bike, but not to much use.

For dinner we had burgers and roasted potatoes, just the right food for a Columbus Day.  I told Marisa a Bad Boy story befor she went to bed, sad because she knew we were leaving tomorrow.  And Evie and I watched the second episode of Homeland with Beth and Rami, a show we both really like.  It was a shocker, with Brodie's terrorism being exposed at the end of the show.  We will have to see where the show goes now.  Carrie has been proved right, Saul and the CIA wrong...they should have listened to a woman!
