Sunny, Blue Skies, And Five Below Zero

What a morning! I woke at 6:30 to windstorms on the lake, frigid weather, and gray skies, but it all disappeared when the sun rose around 7:34. Now, the sun's so bright I have to move to another seat. It looks like today's high will be 5º, and tomorrow, Super Bowl Sunday, will be even colder.

Friday was a busy day for me, a more leisurely one for Evie. After my usual morning of readings, writing, and breakfast, I decided to get in a hike at Long Point State Park before my appointment with my mechanic at 11:00. So I left at 9:45 and hiked among the snow-covered trees and trails for forty minutes. I loved it—the solitude, the grandeur, the quiet. I made it to my car guy at 11:00, and he checked to see if a fuse was the problem with my defective 12-volt cigarette lighter. It wasn't, so I said "forget about it," gave him ten bucks for checking, and drove home for lunch—the leftover chicken and rice.

I relaxed for half an hour, then drove off to Jamestown for a body scan with my dermatologist, something I do twice a year. I passed with flying colors, scheduled my next appointment for August, and then drove to the Kia dealer. They had called, wanting the loaner back for some reason. I returned the loaner and left with my Kia Sportage, but I'll have to return next week because the air flaps are still not working and the part they needed didn't arrive on Friday. They'll call me next week when they get the part; it supposedly will take 15 minutes to install, and voilà, the air flaps will supposedly work. I don't believe it. Anyway, it was nice to have my car back with four-wheel drive, and I gassed it up and was home by 2:30, ready for a nap. What a day.

Evie had a good day, getting some things done and enjoying her leisure away from school. We had our wine at 5:00, then our dinner—broiled chicken breasts, baked potatoes, and a salad. We watched another episode of The Pitt, then some Colbert, and I ended the night with a college basketball game. St. John's upset third-ranked UConn. I started a new book, STAY, and I like it so far.

President Donald Trump last month told Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., that he would be willing to unfreeze $16 billion in funding for a major infrastructure project in New York if Schumer would agree to rename New York's Penn Station and Washington's Dulles Airport after him.

Over the past year, Trump has added his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the U.S. Institute for Peace. In December, the U.S. Navy announced plans for the "Trump Class" of battleships. And, on Thursday, Trump unveiled a new government website for prescription drugs called TrumpRx.
