September Fog

Evie's Dahlias

6:54

It's 7:30 and we are both up, enjoying our coffee, Evie on her phone, and me writing the blog. It was 54º when I woke and looked out at the lake. It's 7:50 and still foggy making me wonder if it's worth kayaking. It's 8:30 and I am sitting here enjoying peach crisp for breakfast topped with Greek yogurt after a brief 20-minute paddle in the fog.

Kayak Morning

Bald Eagle

Monday began as always with a good, long paddle, 80 minutes over to Tom's Point and back. The lake has calmed down since Labor Day, with less and less action every week. After breakfast, Evie suggested we walk Long Point because it was such a fine morning, with lots of sun and blue skies. So we drove to the end of Lakeside Drive, parked our car, and walked a mile and a half through the woods, the only ones on the trail as usual. We occasionally would stop, listen to our Merlin Bird app for the sounds of birds, and then walk on. The app could hear three or four birds but we never could see them.

In The Woods

We didn't get home until just after noon and Evie pulled out the bacon and made us delicious BLT's for lunch. What a delight. I watched another episode of Justified, then almost finished my Gray Man book before briefly napping. When I got up Evie had been busy, using up the last of the peaches and making a peach crisp. Around 4:00 we were about to get something done, washing windows but we were saved by our neighbor Barb, who stopped over to say hi. By the time she left, it was wine time so the windows still needed washing.

While we enjoyed happy hour, the lemon chicken was baking in the oven, rice cooking on the stove. We were both hungry so we ate early, at 6:00, and both of us devoured our dinner. We missed not having Greek lemon chicken, one of our family's favorite dinners. We watched the news, a boring, talky Bargain Block before watching two episodes of the new series on Netflix, The Perfect Couple. It's a thriller and we are both into it and can't wait to watch the next episodes. I ended the night watching the first half of the Jets/49ers game before going up to bed.

Frightening!!
