Clear Skies, Frozen Lake, Again!

6:35

7:38

Well, I woke up this morning, excited to see the flag was motionless, thinking it would be a great morning for a paddle until I realized the lake had iced up overnight. So I will have a long, leisurely morning before getting something done. Ironically, the lake is open in front of Long Point, just not in front of our home.

Yesterday was cold, and overcast until late afternoon, with flurries much of the day. Because of the winds, the lake did not freeze so I paddled for twenty minutes until the wind became too much. We knew we wanted to get in a walk but weren't sure where. We finally decided the Chautauqua Institution would be our best bet because it would protect us from the strong westerly winds. The road was still covered with snow or ice, so we had to be careful walking. We were out for forty-five minutes and met one couple also out for a walk with their dog. Despite the cold and occasional gusts, we enjoyed our Sunday perambulation.

We were home by noon and Evie made us bacon and eggs, along with a couple of slices of the last of the Mt. Athos bread from the Westside Market in Cleveland. The rest of the afternoon went as usual, with lots of basketball, and some reading as I finished my novel set in India, Age Of Vice, and started another Dismas Hardy novel, set in San Francisco, my eleventh in the series. We then either read, napped, or watched TV as our afternoons don't change much even on weekends. Around 4:00, Evie put a spatchcocked Gochulang chicken in the oven, supposedly at a low temperature for three hours. She checked it after two and it was already overdone, alas. So for dinner, we had dry chicken with potatoes, and a Gochujang sauce to give it a punch. It was disappointing because the recipe sounded so good.

By 7:00, I had enough one on one basketball and the teams I was rooting for were losing so we decided to watch a 2019 Italian film, Alone With Her Dreams. The setting, on a small Italian island, was the best part of a slow, predictable film about a young girl left with her curmudgeon of a grandmother for a year. We would give it a C at best. We ended the night with Hometown, a Sunday night favorite HGTV series.
