A Fine Morning For A Paddle

Woodlawn Fall Colors

I heard the first loon cry of the fall when I stepped outside to take my first-morning photo at 7:00. What a scream. Well, it's 9:30 and I was out kayaking for over an hour and a half on a beautiful fall morning, the foilage spectacular along the shoreline. I paddled down to Magnolia, then across to Long Point, back to Sandy Bottom, and home.

Yesterday turned out to be a much better and more fun day than we thought. We woke with no plans other than to watch some football. Of course, I got in a good paddle, and we then had a relaxing morning, with coffee, finishing up the blog, and a short walk and breakfast for me. Soon after, however, we were on our way for a hike with our neighbors, Jim and Barb. We were going to hike Cassadaga Lake Nature Park, a half-hour drive from the lake. We had never hiked it but always wanted to do it. It was an easy 1.8-mile hike through woods, with stops at Mud Lake and Beaver Pond. We took our time, admiring the trees, trying to figure ot what kind they were and the ground cover, primarily ferns beginning to turn from green to lime or yellow. It was a perfect temperature for a hike so all four of us enjoyed it and was worth the drive,

By 1:00, we were home, enjoying our breakfast of fried eggs, sausage patties and bagels and watching CBS Sunday Morning while the Bills game was being saved for viewing after the morning show. That way we can zip through the commercials. We started watching the Bills game around 2:00 and it was virtually over by halftime. So I took a break, read some and napped while Evie made chocolate chip cookies. After my too-long nap, I felt loggy. I then watched the third quarter of the Bills game but had enough after they built a 30+ lead and went back to my book.

Late Afternoon Sky

Enjoying A Fire With Neighbors,  Joe, Betsy, Barb And Jim

By 5:30, we were ready to sit down and enjoy the late afternoon with a glass of wine when our neighbor, Joe texted and invited us over to enjoy their fire pit. So six of us sat around talking, googling the eastern coastline as the sun lit it up briefly It was a fun way to spend the end of day. We went home around 7:00, to a leftover curry dinner, with rice, easy and delicious. We watched some football, some junk TV before going up to bed earlier than usual, tired from our busy day.
