It's 6:45, on a hazy, summer-like morning of 59º. Once again, the calm lake makes it perfect for an early morning paddle. And no boat is in sight, the way I like it. I was out on the lake by 7:00 and home by 8:00. It was not a good morning for birding, just mallards and crows. The wind picked up on my paddle home but it was not a problem. Right now, at 8:32, the flag is flying, the lake is choppy and it has warmed up to 65º.

The Blue Of The Northern Sky |
Yesterday was another busy day for a couple of reasons. First, I got i an early paddle before breakfast in Bemus Point, I then came home, finished the blog, took the furniture off the porch for washing, and drove to Yin Yoga at 9:40. I was the only guy of sixteen gals but didn't mind. I'm a confident guy! On the way home from Yoga, I stopped at Sav A Lot because they were having a sale on pork ribs, the kind we like with sauerkraut. We have enough now for the next couple of months,
When I returned home Evie was upset because our well was not working. We were having our porch power washed and it took the well down so that the pump shut off. So were a bit depressed because we had the porches to put back together and we were having company for dinner. Fortunately, Evie had the main course prepped. We then put the front porch back together, so that we could enjoy appetizers and wine on it when our neighbors arrived, a first for 2022. Lunch was leftover chicken and Amish potato salad which I picked up on a whim at Sav A Lot, It's not bad, a nice accompaniment to lunch. We both relaxed then and I read and napped. Around 3:00, we worked on the back porch, putting it together, sweeping the walk, then working inside, vacuuming the living room and kitchen and setting the table. Because we thought our well was acting up, Evie decided to avoid a shower and wash her hair in the kitchen sink, a la 1950s. I helped rinse off her hair then checked the gauge on our indoor pump and realized it was back to normal. All we had to do is use water and it would kick back on, What a couple of idiots. So Evie went upstairs and took a shower, happy and ready for company and I took a shower as well Alls well with our water.
Our neighbor, Ken, arrived, up for the first time this spring along with Jim and Barb, year-round Woodlawners like us. We sat on the front porch, remarking on the view, and the beauty of the late afternoon as we sipped wine and enjoyed brie, crackers, and spicy cashews. We sat out for an hour, then Evie served up our dinner, shrimp and asparagus with pasta, a salad, and rolls. Of course, it was great, a dish we have had a couple of times at my son Tom's. It's tasty and easy, something you can prep ahead of time. We sat back out on the porch for dessert, Greek yogurt, brown sugar, raspberries, and blueberries. They stayed until 9:00 and we then cleaned up the kitchen, happy to have the water available, We watched some TV for a while before going up to bed early, happy but tuckered out from our day of trauma and work,.
Very happy neighbors...and lucky neighbors!
