Almost Winter

7:21

7:54

A calm, partly overcast and cold (26º) morning on the lake. Some light threatens the gray to the south and few if any wildlife cruises the lake.  According to our resident birder, because of the unusual weather, many of the birds we usually observed have not arrived.  We certainly have noticed many fewer birds at our feeder than last year at this time.

Sunday was a football afternoon as we overdid it, watching a couple of games, taking most of the afternoon. We did have our usual Sunday morning, however, taking our time, enjoying our coffee, the morning sky, and writing the blog.  By 10:30, we were ready to consider doing something so we decided to take our usual Sunday walk around the Chautauqua Institution.  We were worried about it being icy but for the most part, it was fine. We walked for less than an hour, happy with cutting our circle of the CI short,

When we returned, we were both hungry so Evie made us a menemen, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, feta cheese, and Turkish spices, and toasted a couple of bagels.  We watched CBS Sunday Morning for a good hour before the start of the Buffalo Bills game.  After a quarter, we both took a break.  I wanted to read and try to finish my book before we leave for Virginia on Thursday and Evie decided to make some cookies to my delight, Russian teacakes.  I, of course, fell asleep reading, not getting very far in my book,

I woke to the aroma of Evie putting together our Sunday dinner, pork, and sauerkraut. Once she was done and it was in the oven, we watched the end of the Buffalo game and stuck with the Green Bay game to the very end.  Both of us multitasked while watching, Evie on her iPhone and me on my Kindle.  We enjoyed a glass of wine as the game ended and then had our dinner, pork, sauerkraut over mashed potatoes. Yum. We watched SNL then an earlier episode of Real Time With Bill Maher before Evie went up to bed.  I stayed up reading and watching a few more minutes of football before joining her.
