Ready For Mulching |

7:37 |
It's 7:20 and the sky has lightened, with a vast narrow cloud bank hanging over the Bemus shoreline, blue skies above, with a touch of pink. It's 55ยบ with a light wind, the lake surface slightly mottled. We better enjoy today because the next three days have rain in the forecast. It's 9:20 and I have just returned from breakfast in Bemus with the guys rather than paddle, mostly because it's too dark at 7:00 for kayaking.
Wednesday went quickly, especially since I did little if anything of consequence other than finish up my book. The day started well with a long paddle, the blog, and breakfast. After that I showered, and headed off to the dermatologist for another three-month appointment, getting a few spots frozen and one biopsy which seems to be my usual routine. I measure my life in doctor's appointments. Afterward, I stopped for a coffee, then did a quick run-through of Aldi's although I only left with three things. When I returned home, Evie was busy making appointments and writing Felt cards, the ultimate road to frustration because the website constantly changes its format, angering this clientele. She did take a timeout to make a Turkish omelet for lunch and I finished the last episode of Prime Suspect so I will have to find another series to watch during lunch.
Both of us then wasted the afternoon, depressed by the wreck of our house, the kitchen floor tore up, living room a mess. We both read until we decided to perk up and we went for a boat ride on an algae-ridden lake, a problem I guess all over New York's Finger Lakes, a result of warm, calm weather so they say. It tends to come and go, depending on the winds. We were out for forty-five minutes and it picked up our moods so that we looked forward to going out to dinner with our friends, Marjorie and Ken.
A Night Out |
We picked them up at 6:00 and drove to Westfield, twenty minutes away, to the venerable Calarco's Italian Restaurant, founded by the Calarco family in 1931. We were not sure what to expect since we had not been there in a few years but were pleasantly surprised. The ambience was the same, like an original Italian bistro with lots of photos and a mural on the wall. It was, according to our waitress, a slow night with only three other tables occupied. We were happy, however, with a bottle of Chianti and great Italian food, from the salad, to our pasta with eggplant, chicken or meatballs and homemade pies for dessert. We wondered why it took us so long to return for our dinner. We were home by 8:30 and quickly changed into more comfortable clothes and watched Jeopardy and another episode Maid. We still have reservations about it but will stick with it, hoping it will get more interesting.
