Winter Rain

6:47

7:19

For the first time in weeks, I woke to light rain, a gray sky, as Spring nears. It's 52º  yet temperatures will not rise to the high '60s like yesterday.  And we can expect more rain midafternoon, as the snow and ice continue to melt.

Thunder Bridge

We had a fun Wednesday mostly because we were having our neighbors over for dinner for the first time in over a year.  Both of us have been careful and vaccinated, so we felt confident. The morning, however, was typical in that Evie was busy in the kitchen until 10:30 when we decided to get in a walk at the Chautauqua Institution.  Although snowdrifts still border most roads, they are clear and free of ice.  We were surprised at how tired we got walking.  One would have thought that our snowshoeing or skiing would have made us more used to walking.  Perhaps it was an aberration, just one of those days where you are tired anyway, no matter what you do.  Anyways, we cut our walk short, keeping it under two miles, thinking about when we could get back to the car.

Walking The Chautauqua Institution

Lunch was one of my favorites, as Evie fried up the leftover linguini noodles along with a couple of eggs.  I am still struggling to find something to watch, mostly channel surfing with little success.  It was good to get back to my book and nap.  Although Evie had done much of the prepping for dinner on Tuesday, there is always more to do the next day so she spent part of the afternoon in the kitchen.  I helped whenever she needed me and by 5:00 everything was copacetic.

Finally, Dinner With Jim and Barb

Barb and Jim arrived just after 6:00  bearing tulips and wine, and it was really fun to get together with them again.  It had been too long.  We relaxed with Sapporo beers and wine before settling down at the dinner table for our Thai soup with shrimp.  It was the highlight of the meal.  We then had Thai chicken thighs with a peanut sauce with various spices, which was also delicious.  We had fun talking about favorite movies and TV series and listened to a singer they introduced us to, the late John Prine.  They have been to numerous Prine concerts.  We had dessert in the living room, mango sherbet, and Evie's homemade almond cookies, a perfect ending to an Asian meal.  They stayed until 10:00, heading home with a couple of recommendations of what to watch on TV, Midnight Diner on Netflix, and Better Things on Hulu.
