Threatening To Rain

 Grandchildren, Nick And Marlena

7:14
It's overcast, with threatening, dark clouds but no rain, alas and it has been like this for the past twenty-four hours.  It's 8:30 and I have been out on a windy lake for forty-five minutes although it is surprisingly warm and humid.  Everything was gray, the lake, the sky, so there was little action on the lake other than a few fishing boats.

Kayak Morning

A Grand Old Guy

Yesterday was a typical Saturday in some ways. I got in a paddle, wrote the blog and had breakfast before we decided to get the trash together and I drove off to the Transfer Station. Once that was done, I was done for the day, with nothing I had to do other than get rid of some spider webs around our windows.  Evie, however, was busy, making Nora Ephron's peach pie with custard and she remembered to bake the crust before putting in the filling.  Once that was done, she went out to mow the yard before it rained and I put the cover on the boat.  Needless to say, once I put the cover on the boat it almost always assures it will not rain.  Yesterday was proof of that.  While Evie mowed, I practiced yoga only because I bragged about either doing yoga, walking, or riding my bike each day.  I couldn't break my vow after only two days although I was tempted.

After yoga, I had another bowl of quinoa soup for lunch, watched my show, and took a nap after reading on my Kindle for about five minutes.  Once Evie was through with the yard, she was able to enjoy the afternoon.  We were having Jane and Jerry over for dinner but they were bringing a mushroom man pizza from the Ashville General Store and beer so all Evie had to do was make a salad and the pie was already made. Around 5:00, I meandered over to the Woodlawn right of way and took a few photos of the wedding taking place in our neighbors front yard.  Despite the gray and light rain, it was striking, both the bride and groom and the setting,

Jane and Jerry arrived at 6:00 and we immediately sat down and devoured the pizza and salad, always a favorite.  They will be in town for only three or four more days, till their house closes and then they start a new life in Florida, in The Villages.  They are excited obviously and will be closer to family.

Heading To The Villages

We enjoyed our pie on the couches and looked back at all the photos of the times we had dinner together over the years.  All Evie had to do was highlight Jane's photo on Google and all the photos of her popped up.  Amazing.  Jerry built our house in 1996 after the fire,  and we have been friends with Jane since the early '80s,  We will miss them.  After they left, I quickly washed up the dishes and Evie put stuff away so we could watch one more episode of Home Town before bed.

The photo below is from the mountains of Colorado where our son Tom and family are spending a week hiking.
