Glory Be The Day

6:04

6:33

I just returned from an hour plus paddle, spotted a couple of herons, missed the osprey.  I paddled to Tom's Pont and back, ran into Jim and Tina on the way back, only to find out the fly fisherman on the paddleboard was their son in law.  A few fishing boats out but nothing like previous weekends.

Yesterday was a lazy day especially for me because I had a bad night.  I woke up too many times and couldn't get back to sleep so I was downstairs on my computer by 5:00.  As the day went along, I felt better but early, all I wanted to do was lie down...so I did.  I made myself go kayaking but skipped both yoga and a bike ride, breaking my vow to do one thing other than kayaking each day.  Fortunately, it was a good day for doing little and we had nothing we had to do.  Evie went to Wegman's around 10:30, to pick up a few things we needed for the next couple of days.  And she pulled out a sirloin steak for dinner and marinated it in a soy/ginger marinade until dinner time.  It's the kind of dinner we would have when we lived in Honolulu.  Our neighbor,  a Filipino, showed us how he marinated his steaks in soy and ginger and since then, we have often done the same thing,

Evie bought up a hoagie for lunch so I was a happy boy as I watched my show and looked forward to taking a nap upstairs in our air-conditioned bedroom.  I am reading All Adults Here, a family saga by Emma Straub.  I slept fitfully for an hour and woke with a bit more energy but not much.  I read some on the porch, then joined Evie in the side yard, in the coolness of dappled sun, and read some more.

We had wine time on the front porch until 6:00 when it was time to fire up my new Weber Grill, let it warm up, and grill our steak.  It's a much hotter grill than I am used to, so I seared it on one side for four minutes, the other for less than three and it was just about right, some rare some medium, the way Evie likes it.  We had a salad, mushrooms, corn along with the steak so it was quite a filling dinner.  We watched a series neither of us was enamored with called Marcella but since we had nothing else in mind, we stuck with it until it was time for bed.
