18 Hours In Buffalo

A Night Out In Buffalo
I am up early, of course, relaxing in the Wyndham Garden Hotel, in downtown Buffalo.  I have another surgery appointment this morning at 8:30 at the Roswell Cancer Center to make sure they removed all of the melanoma the last time.  I should be out in a half-hour, on the road back to Chautauqua by 9:30 at the latest.

Yesterday morning was basically getting ready to drive to Buffalo early afternoon so neither of us felt like doing much other than finishing the blog, packing for less than a day in Buffalo and making a list for Trader Joe's, our one-stop in Buffalo. I did get to breakfast with the guys at 8:00 and told them all about the Slovenian basketball player, no relation to Evie or Melania.  I read some when I returned home, had a lunch of a sourdough bagel, our new favorite, with tomato and avocado and took a brief nap.  I also started a series highly recommended by my friend Ron called Peaky Blinders,  So far, so good.

We left for Buffalo at 2:00, arriving at 3:30, at a crowded strip mall in Amherst, a suburb of Buffalo, containing both Trader Joes and Barnes and Noble.  Trader Joe's was packed even on a Thursday afternoon so we took our time, went slowly through every aisle, as Evie picked any goodie we might want for the holidays.  We left around 4:00 and fought traffic to our hotel in downtown Buffalo.  We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel, literally next door to Roswell.  We relaxed in our room until 6:00, then took the hotel manager's advice and walked 15 minutes down to a recommended bar/restaurant on Allen Street called Gabriel's Gate, a great choice.

Gabriel's Gate
There was a wait to get a table at Gabriel's so we walked to the bar, stood around for five minutes and jumped at two open chairs.  The wings, the best in Buffalo according to some, and the onion soup were recommended so we ordered both.  Evie thought the wings were the best she ever had and my soup was great as well.  We ended up talking two guys in town from Chicago for a concert with a band they follow called Every Time I Die, for their Christmas concert.  I don't think they will be singing Christmas carols as the guitarist is an amateur wrestler and he looks it.

The Bar At Gabriels
The restaurant was a good choice and we enjoyed the walk home in the cold through the city streets.

We relaxed in our room, watching TV until we got tired, turned off the TV, read for a while and went to sleep,
