Hunter Moon

Hunter Moon

The Moon

7:37
It's 8:28 and I have just returned from a half-hour on the lake, the sky changing every five minutes.  I was up later than usual, 7:20, so I kayaked before writing the blog and I wanted to make sure I was home by 8:30 because, Cory, our plumber was coming to give our heating system a check-up, a yearly routine.

Kayak Morning

Victoria/Woodlawn at 8:00
Yesterday began with a great paddle, mostly because I photographed both a bald eagle and heron, It was another cool but sunny day, perfect for any outdoor activity.  So after our breakfast, we drove over to the CI and took our usual Sunday stroll, through the streets of Chautauqua Institution, enjoying the changing gardens in the front yards, the hydrangeas turning pink and red, a few perrenials still colorful.  We were home by 12:30 so Evie fired up the stove, fried some potatoes, eggs, and bacon, toasted a bagel and we had our favorite meal of the week, a big breakfast.  We watched CBS Sunday Morning for the first time in months because it was too windy and chilly to sit on the front porch,.

Thunder Bridge
The rest of the afternoon went quickly, as I watched some of the Browns, depressing as usual, then read and took a nap,. Evie enjoyed some sun until 3:30 when she fired up the lawnmower and started cutting the back yard, near her garden, thinking that would be it. The temptation however to keep cutting was too much, especially the mulching of leaves in the front yard so she finished the yard.  I couldn't just sit inside watching the Browns lose again, so I helped out, started moving yard furniture into the garage for the winter, making it easier to cut the yard.

A New White Dahlia, Tinged In Pink
We had decided early that it would be our once a week Manhattan night because there was supposed to be a Hunter Moon at 7:10, so by 6:30, we were sitting on our front porch, with good cheese and a Manhattan, listening to music, waiting for the moon to rise over Bemus Bay.  And at just about 7:10, it started to rise, a huge yellow globe in the darkness of the sky,. Evie walked out on the dock to take some photographs and we kept taking them for the next 20 minutes.  It was so cool, its light reflecting on the lake, reminding us both of the song from the movie,  Moon Over Miami, a 1940's film.  We had a great and easy dinner, leftover schnitzel sandwiches on sourdough bread, with mayo and tomatoes and two ears apiece of sweet corn, Yum. We watched Real Time With Bill Maher, then a variety of shows, from news to home remodeling until it was time to head up to bed.  Another good fall day.
