7:17 |
I was up at 7:00, made the coffee and by 7:20, the lake began to appear, a muted glow in an otherwise dark gray sky. I cannot remember a morning like this, the stillness, the quiet, the muted lightness of the lake and horizon. I was out on the water by 8:00, paddled for a half hour and saw only a few mallards.

Sandy Bottom |
Yesterday was a day of recuperation, from our Saturday night clambake when we stayed up partying until 11:00. Wow. Anyways, it was also a miserable day, wet and wild, with winds gusting, deadfall littering the yard, leaves once again covering the yard. We finished the blog, had our coffee and a light breakfast. We couldn't make up our mind what to if anything when we remembered that it was the last day for Red's Pancake House until next Spring. That was enough to get us in our car and drive for twenty-five minutes to Reds. Clearly, others had the idea as well as the parking lot was full and we had to wait a few minutes for the first time ever for a seat.

Red's Best Pancake House |
They had two cooks grilling the pancakes and sausage because it was so busy. We were seated in five minutes, served by the same young waitress we always get and had our pancakes in another five minutes, with two sausage patties and orange juice, coffee and applesauce. We spread our pancakes with butter, then soaked them with Red's finest maple syrup and we were in heaven. These pancakes are the best as is their syrup and sausage, the reason we like to come. We had seconds, smartly declined thirds and as we left, the place was beginning to wind down for the season.

Sunday Morning Sky |
We were home in time to watch the start of the Bills game at 1:00, a disappointing loss to the Eagles. Neither of us was that interested in the game so we did not watch much of it. I returned to my book and fell asleep on the couch, tired from getting up so early. The afternoon went quickly and by 4:30, we were watching the Browns boot away any chance of a victory. It's difficult to watch them for long even if a fan.
Neither of us wanted to fuss with dinner. Earlier, Evie had put together a chicken soup with a tomato base, so she heated that up, browned a couple of hotdogs, made a salad, and microwaved the last couple of ears of corn. We watched another Real Time With Bill Maher, then SNL, and finished with Axios, a news program on HBO which we like. They are a bit like 60 Minutes, interviewing or getting at a current story. In this show, they interviewed both the Presidents of Iraq and the IMF. Both were so well-spoken, reasonable, and intelligent that we could not help comparing them to the Bozo in the White House.
