A Quiet, Calm Lake Morning

Cruising The Lake With Joe And Mary Lou

7:40

7:51
It's 7:50 and both Evie and I are on the front porch enjoying the morning and our coffee.  Our friends from Oxford, Ohio, Joe and Lou, left about forty-five minutes ago for New Jersey, taking scenic Route 86/17 most of the way.  I had little energy after they left but because the lake was so tempting and calm, I went out for forty minutes, over to Long Point and back.  It was a good choice.

Kayak Morning

Heron And Mallards
Yesterday was a waiting game sort of day, waiting for Joe and Lou to arrive.  Weather-wise, it was alternatively sunny, then cloudy, so we did not know what kind of weather to expect later in the day.  I did get in a nice paddle over to Bemus Bay and back. We then had a relaxing morning getting ready for our friends.  Evie had already prepped most of our dinner, so we could enjoy the day and the dock some when the sun was out.

We had our usual big breakfast at 12:30 and then I watched some football, read and napped briefly until 3:00 when they arrived.  It's an easy five or six-hour drive from Oxford, Ohio, for them, just a bit out of the way to New Jersey.  We were really happy they made a stop with us.  We quickly decided it was a good time for a boat ride, so we cruised over to Bemus, docked our boat and walked around Bemus which was having Bemus Point Day, with lots of tents selling pictures, paintings, clothes, you name it.  It was quite crowded, the last crowded day until next summer I suppose. We ended up on the Lenhart Hotel's porch, having a beer, enjoying the view as this was the last day for the hotel and its bar to be open.

We took our time boating back despite the gray skies, looking at all the lakefront homes.  We then enjoyed an appetizer of lentil soup on the front porch, catching up on our kids and grandkids.  Their son lives in New Jersey, daughter in Connecticut, so like us, they have at least an eight-hour drive to see their grandchildren.

A Moussaka Dinner With College Friends Among Dahlias
We didn't sit down to our moussaka dinner until 7:30, just as it was getting dark on the porch.  Dinner was great of course and filling and the moussaka was the envy of any Turkish Lokanta.  We ended the night looking at Evie's Shutterfly books, tales of each of our summers with family.  Joe brought in some Maker's Mark so we enjoyed a heel tap or two along with homemade peach pie as we reminisced about the good old days at Ohio University, catching up on some of our friends, teammates and fraternity brothers who Joe does a good job of keeping up with.  We all went up to bed just after 10:00, tired, and they wanted to make sure to get off by 7:00 the next morning.
