Up at 6:30 after some rain during the night. The sky, the yard, feel washed, cleaned after the rain. The sky is spectacular this morning, with clouds and the sun trying to either breakthrough or above them. What a difference to yesterday's heavy cloud cover, a morning of gray. As I sit here writing my blog, I think back to the mornings over the past ten years that we have been retired, how the morning sky, the trees, the lake, and yard change each season and how we welcome the change, get excited about it. We are fortunate to be living here on the lake. I got in a good paddle before Roto-Rooter arrived because we were having trouble with our septic tank emptying, thus the late publication of the blog.

"Lake Michigan" Variety |
Yesterday began with a heavy rainstorm, ending with blue skies and puffy, cotton-like clouds. I had a short paddle, racing home to beat the rain. We sat on the front porch with our coffee and watched the showers pelt the lake, obscuring our view of Long Point. It did not last long and before long, steam was rising from the rooftops because of the warm sunshine. Our neighbor's children stopped by to give Evie a card they made for all the neighbors.

Note From Neighborhood Children |
They also mentioned how much they like the painted rocks, how they always look at them when they walk by. Well, that was all Evie needed and she invited them to paint rocks on our front porch. They excitedly ran home, put on some old clothes and painted rocks for a good hour or more. By the time the four of them were done, they must have painted at least 30 rocks, some just one color, but many really original and fun. It was a fun and unexpected way to fill the morning.

Painting Rocks |
After they left, we cleaned up, put away the paints and Evie started our breakfast, fried potatoes with onions, eggs, and a bagel. We ate on the front porch because the day had become sunny with blue skies. After breakfast, it was time to enjoy the day, for Evie on the dock, for me reading on the porch and taking a nap, Around 3:00 Evie had had enough sun so she pulled a chaise lounge in the shade in the side yard. I joined her and it was perfect, shade, no hot sun or humidity but we had a breeze. I was actually uncomfortable sitting in the house reading because of the humidity so the yard and breeze was a relief.

At 5:00, Evie grabbed two beers and I took the cover off the boat and we went for a long boat ride over beyond the Bemus Point Bridge and home. It was a great cruise, with an amazing sky of blue and clouds and surprisingly, even though it was Sunday night, there were lots of action on the lake. After I put the cover back on the boat, we sat out on the front porch to enjoy the rest of the early evening with a glass of wine. About 7:30, Evie roasted a salmon filet in the oven, made some rice and a salad and we had dinner. We have tried to watch the critically acclaimed Fleabag on Prime Video at least twice. So last night was a charm as we watched the entire first season of five half-hour shows. We gradually grew to like it but it took some time. As one critic put it, "it's dirty, it's disgusting, it's hilarious, and it's about being a real girl. Scared? You should be," We will watch Season Two tonight I would guess.
