Cloudy, Warm, And Humid

6:41
It's 6:21 and I have been up for an hour.  I woke at 5:15 to three teenagers talking on the end of our next-door neighbor's dock.  They were taking photos of each other with their phones, having a dandy early morning talk.  It's a gray on gray morning and quiet (now), the lake smooth, a different kind of morning beauty when its gray like this. We received maybe a third of an inch of rain overnight, just right for the garden and it's already sticky, a 70º early morning.  I just returned from a paddle, no rain, and ran into our neighbors, Tina and Jim, both in a double kayak which was unusual.  This past Friday, Tina had stepped out of her kayak, slipped, fell, and broke her arm.  Unfortunately, they will be kayaking double for a couple of months.

Kayak Morning
Yesterday was a get ready for the holiday kind of day.  I started the day of course with a paddle, a couple of conversations with neighbors who were also on the lake early.  Evie was up early, too, making her menu for the next four days, making an extensive shopping list for Wegman's.  We decided to shop together because we had much to buy and it would be a busy day with everyone stocking up for the Fourth.  We both had our iPhones out like a couple of nerds, checking the Wegman's app to see what we had checked off and bought.  We filled a couple of carts but breezed through the checkout line.  On the way home, we stopped at Sav A Lot, picked up a few other items and were home by noon.  Unfortunately, Wegman's did not have ground lamb so I hurried off to the Lighthouse, bought a couple of frozen pounds and a sub sandwich for our lunch.

Meanwhile, Evie was prepping a couple of things for lunches and dinner.  I stayed out of the way but cleaned up the kitchen when she was finished.  We shared the sub and I watched my series, then relaxed with a book because I couldn't nap,  Evie decided to cut the lawn because rain was predicted over the next few days.  Once that was done, she was able to get in some reading on the dock while I watched the US Women's soccer team beat England, 2-1, an exciting match.

At 6:15, we went over to our neighbors, Ken and Marjorie's home, for a glass of wine and appetizers before going out for dinner.  We decided to hit Steeners, take advantage of their two steaks and fry dinners for twenty bucks.  It was really busy because it was also an outdoor volleyball night but we easily found a booth.  We had fun talking about the next few days although our Fourth sounds more fun.  They are having over twenty people for the Fourth and we are just having my sisters and their husbands.  That seems to be the way it goes up here on the Fourth; lots of family as it's the perfect day to gather and everyone loves being on the lake.  We were home around 9:15 in time to watch a bit of TV, nothing exciting, just the news.
