7:30 |
It's 7:30 and we are both up, a white morning, a result of a light snowfall last night. It's 28º and a winter storm advisory is up for late tonight and tomorrow morning. We are sitting here trying to decide whether to start our drive to Virginia mid-afternoon, driving for three hours and stopping south of Pittsburgh or just make the seven-hour drive tomorrow, weather be damned. Either way, conditions tomorrow on the PA Turnpike are going to a mix of ice an rain. Neither choice seems good. And the more we look at the next couple of days, we may just have to cancel and wait until Thursday or Friday.

Oven Ready |
Yesterday was a very busy day for Evie, not so much for me. I did drive to Wegman's to pick up a few things for Evie (when she discovered the jumbo shells we had in the pantry expired a year ago!) but that was about it, other than reading, napping, and watching some NBA basketball on TV. We did have our coffee before I went to Wegman's and Evie started on making two large pans of a chicken casserole. Once that was done, it was time to make three pans of stuffed shells, all for the gathering at Jill's after the funeral of her father in law. Everything was done by 3:00 however and I let her rest while I did up all the dishes, making sure the kitchen was almost spic n span. It was a good feeling especially for Evie, having all the cooking done for our visit.

Late Afternoon Fishing |
For lunch, I had a couple of fried eggs and a bagel, perfect, and watched some TV. The rest of the afternoon neither of us did much. I thought about getting out and cross country skiing but that was about it, thinking about it. Evie was wiped out from her morning so she took it easy.
Dinner was the leftover chicken from the casseroles. Evie made them into sandwiches and with a salad with an easy and quick dinner. Yum. We watched Real Time With Bill Maher, a fun show because he had a Trump supporter on the panel, making it a rousing hour. I give the guy credit for being there. We ended up skipping through some of the Red Carpet before watching much of the Grammy Awards. The tribute to Dolly Parton and Dinah Ross's performance were the only parts worth watching.
I hate the Pa Turnpike at this time of year when it gets icy or with a "wintery mix". Might be better to stay home: I'll bet General Mike would understand.
ReplyDeleteCan you believe you actually have to PAY to drive that road? They should pay YOU !!
Hey Sam, Thanks for the advice; we took it and are staying home but hope to head to VA on Thursday, weather permitting.
