Summertime When The Livin' Is Easy

6:08

6:20
A bright sunrise this morning at 6:05, enough to send me inside to the living room couch.  I was up just in time to get a photo.  So far, no bass boats, just a quiet morning on the lake.  It's 68º, should get up to the mid-eighties later with a chance of thunderstorms. Fat chance.  And I did not think I was going to get a photo of a heron but on my way home, I spotted one, hidden high up in the crotch of a tree, both scratching an itch and taking off.

Departing
Yesterday was a pretty good day, as we got some things done. After my great paddle and heron watch, I took down our purple martin house early because, for some reason, we did not get any families this year, just sparrows.  It seems to be a sparse summer for martins.  Just as I was finishing, the weed cutters came by.  Evie was quickly out on the dock, offering them a glass of ice and Squirt, while they cut the weeds in our area.  This is their second time to our area and between them and our cutting, the swimming area is 'grandchildren ready.'

After they left, Evie put together a mega shopping list, as it's time to get ready for our family's visit and Evie usually has two or three meals done and frozen, ready to pull out when they arrive.  But first, we hit Walmart, to pick up a few unnecessary items that Evie wanted, then on to a busy Wegman's but between the two of us, we were in and out in twenty minutes.  On the way home, we stopped at the library to pick up a book my sister Ellen highly recommended, BAD BLOOD by John Carreyrou.

When we got home, it took awhile to put away the groceries, and then I grilled a couple of Italian sausages for my lunch, with a mediocre ciabatta bread from Wegman's.  It looked good but was fluff like much of their bread.  Once Evie was done in the kitchen, she gathered her stuff to enjoy the dock while I ate and watched another episode of FAUDA which is getting better, more complications, less a replay of the previous episode.  And I am fast into my book, THE DIRECTOR, about Russians hacking into the CIA.  Sound relevant?

After a nap, watching some Wimbledon, and reading, I joined Evie on the dock and read.  I cannot just sit there for long, especially when I know I have weeds that need cutting so I went out in neck deep water and starting cutting, filling a couple of buckets in a half hour.  Good fun.  It was a surprisingly quiet later afternoon on the lake, so we took a cruise over to Bemus, checked to see that they have the village dock in, finally, so we can now take our boat over without worrying about using the Casino dock.

When we returned, we were tired and lazy but had Evie had enough mojo to put together one of our favorite dinners, linguini with scallops in a vermouth, shallot and lemon sauce.  And we watched a movie, BEING AWESOME, a pleasant surprise, understated and touching, about a couple of losers who vow to be 'awesome.'  It's nice when you unexpectedly find a movie that you like.
