A Day Of Many Photos

Rain Washed Dahlias

6:30
An early morning for me at the lake, getting up at 5:20, making the coffee, and taking it easy on the couch as the morning begins to lighten up.  A vast cloud bank over Long Point will delay the sun's rising until it can mount above it.  The lake is quiet, hardly any activity except for seagulls and crows and I scared off a heron when I walked outside at 5:30.  It's 6:35, time to get in a paddle before everyone gets up.  I was out for an hour, with a couple of interesting photos of herons, a sandpiper, and a larger sandpiper-like bird.  Not sure what it is.

Yesterday was a strange day in that we spent much of the day inside although it never rained.  It was overcast, not particularly cool, but we still hardly used the dock or yard.  I got in an early paddle, came home for breakfast and to finish the blog.  By 10:00, everyone was up and although it was still cloudy, the lake was invitingly calm, so Marisa and I went out for a paddle, over to Long Point, back to the reeds and home,  And we were able to photograph my friend, Henry the Heron, in his usual perch.

Around 11:30, Beth and I drove off to Lakewood, to pick up a few things, eggs at Ryder's Cup and a coffee, then other goodies at Sav A Lot before heading home.  When we got back, Evie had put her granddaughter to work, cleaning and mopping the back porch, earning her keep.  As a reward for our shopping and cleaning efforts, Evie made up a big breakfast, home fries, eggs, bacon, and bagels and we sat around the table, talking about what we were going to do the rest of the day...nothing much.

What A Good Girl

Tres Chic Front Porch
Actually, we have a project, a tablecloth with various foods outlined,  made to be colored and like a puzzle, it allows anyone to sit down, get out the permanent markers, pick out a cupcake, carrot or tomato for example, and color it in. So whenever we were bored, we spent a few minutes coloring in an item.  For the rest of the afternoon, I had taped the British Open, so I watched most of that until dinner.  Beth made a pan of butterscotch brownies, and Evie and Marisa actually went out on the dock and fished for an hour or so until it was dinner time.  And while they fished, Beth sat on the front experimenting with watercolors.

Making Some Progess
For dinner, Beth made one of her Mexican specialties, tacos, ground beef with refried beans and various spices.  We filled taco shells with the meat and cheese, baked them, then filled them to the brim with fresh toppings, better than Taco Hut by far.  We were determined to watch a movie so by 7:30, we were watching Three Billboards in Ebbing, Missouri, one of our favorites but Beth and Marisa had not seen it yet.  It's a great movie, amazing performances, two Academy Award-winning performances and as usual when we recommend a movie to our grandchildren, it's more graphic, vulgar and violent then we remember. Oh, well, they have no doubt seen or heard it before.

Cosy On Her Favorite Couch
We stayed up until 11:00 when we were tired enough to want to 'cop some z's' as we used to say in the good old college days of the 1960's.
