Waking To Another Winter Storm Warning

Heading Home

8:46
It's just about 8:00 and I have been up for an hour, a strip of cream hangs just above the opposite shoreline. The air is much warmer today, 25º at the moment, a contrast to yesterday's 8º at the same time.  And as I suggested in my title, a winter storm warning suggests that starting this evening, we may get anywhere from 8-16 inches of snow over the next two days. Great.

Frosted Branches
We got lots of sunshine yesterday probably because it was cold early but rose to the 30's in the late afternoon.  While we had our coffee, Evie made up a shopping list for me on her Wegman app because I was going off to Lakewood around 11:00, to return the cracked wine glasses to Bon Ton and do some shopping.  I stopped at Ryders for coffee and eggs and it was a busy place as Joyce's daughter and friends were back from college, on Spring Break.  I then returned the wine glasses and got a new set, checking this time for cracks.  I finished my sojourn with a quick run through Wegman's on a surprisingly busy Monday. Usually, it's Tuesday, senior citizen discount day that's busy.

Monday Morning's Icing
While I was shopping, Evie was shopping as well but at Amazon.  Our 30-year-old Kitchen Aid food processor needs to be replaced so Evie called Kitchen Aid and because we were loyal customers, they were going to give us the best price on a new one.  Evie bought their line, ordered it but then as a lark, checked the same processor on Amazon and it was twenty bucks cheaper.  Humphh!  So she called Kitchen Aid back up, cancelled the order, then went to Amazon and ordered the same Kitchen Aid and she would have it in two days, not ten.  That took her most of the morning.

For lunch, we had toasted cheese sandwiches with squash bisque and I watched Bloodline, at this point all I want to do is get it over with.  After lunch, Evie prepped our dinner, slicing and pounding pork tenderloin into thin cutlets, then breading them and letting them air dry until dinner.  I finally finished THE DEVIL'S PUNCHBOWL by Greg Iles and was excited to start my new John Hart novel, THE HUSH.  He is one of my favorites and this is his fourth novel, all great reads.

After my nap, a good one since I was up around 6:00, I drove to the Chautauqua Institution and walked the grounds for close to an hour.  Because Evie's back is still fragile, she decided to stay at home and get some things done, like clean carpet spots with her new cleaner, made from a paste vinegar and baking soda.  It works great by the way.

We had our wine time around 5:30 and we mourned the arrival of daylight saving time.  It's too light out to have a cocktail; it seems scandalous to drink during the daylight.  Around 6:30, Evie pulled the baked potatoes out of the oven, fried the pork cutlets and made a salad and broccoli.  We first started making the Wienerschnitzel in Istanbul and it has always been one of our go to meals.  In Istanbul, we used beef steak, here at the lake pork.  Evie made enough so that I can have Wienerschnitzel sandwiches for lunch today, good planning.  We watched three more episodes of THE KILLING, Season 3 and we are only starting to remember how violent it was.
