A daily journal of our lives (begun in October 2010), in photos (many taken by my wife, Evie) and words, mostly from our home on Chautauqua Lake, in Western New York, where my wife Evie and I live, after my having retired from teaching English for forty-five years in Hawaii, Turkey, and Ohio. We have three children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson, as you will notice if you follow my blog since we often travel to visit them. Photo from our porch taken on 11/03/2024 at 7:07 AM

MRS, FLETCHER: TOM PEROTTA
Not my favorite Perotta but imminently readable, a satire on the sexual mores of the modern teenager, its influence on Mom. Are you ready for some sex? Mrs Fletcher and her son, Brendan, are the narrators of alternating chapters. Brendan, a typical entitled jock, off to college, to enjoy its easy girls, perhaps study some. His Mom, divorced and lost, ends up taking a gender class from a transgender professor with whom she bonds. Both get mixed up in sex. Brendan eventually is accused by a girl he finally likes, of sexual harassment and leaves school. His Mom, titillated by porm, flirts with Amanda, a tattooed subordinate at work, and skateboarder, Julian, a high school classmate of her son Brendan. Things as you can imagine do not go well though by the end, both seem to have learned something from their year of freedom and some order is restored. Perotta is fun to read, his text both hilarious and terrifying at times.
