Up at 6:06, the same time as yesterday, to a blur of a vista, as the fog, heavy and wet, still hangs over the lake at 7:30. When I went out to take a photo, drops of moisture fell on me from the trees. And as I walked out, all I could see was the neck of a heron who, unfortunately, I scared off. It's 59ยบ and we are looking forward to another Indian Summer kind of day, sunny and warm.

Heading To The Chautauqua Institution |
Yesterday was another splendid day on the lake, sunny and warm with hardly a ripple on the lake all day. We seem to get days like this only in September for some reason. We had a leisurely coffee with our friends, but around 9:30, Ron and I went out for a paddle, over to Long Point and back to Sandy Bottom and home.

At Chautauqua Institution |
We then had a light breakfast of bagels, then put on our walking shoes and cruised over to the Chautauqua Institution in our boat. Fortunately, their dock was still in so we were able to tie up. We took a leisurely hour walk around the north end of the CI, admiring the houses and gardens. It has an empty feel to it as most residents have gone home, leaving the grounds to construction crews and gardening crews. And, like here at Woodlawn, the trees are starting to change, leaves are falling.

Evie Joy |
We did not get back to the house until 1:00, hungry and ready for some relaxation. Evie made up ham sandwiches along with a tureen of Indian cauliflower soup. So all she needed to do was heat both and we had a good lunch, just what we wanted. A couple of us took naps, some read, and Evie went out on the dock, joined later by Vickie. Around 3:30 Ron and I drove up Carpenter-Pringle road and picked up my boat trailer, dropping it off at Keystone Garage, to get a New York State safety check, something I have never done, a bad boy. I want to make sure it's in good shape since I have not done anything to it for 15 years.

A Couple Of Maine-iacs |
We came in off the dock around 5:00, took showers and cruised over to Bemus Point around 6:15, meeting our good friends, Ron and Linda at the Ellicott Brewery. Lots of people had the same idea as both the Bemus and Casino boat slips were practically full. And the Ellicottville porch was also busy, so we ended up sitting inside for a beer. We really like the ambiance, the way they have renovated the old Surf Club, and they always have a variety of microbrews brews. We stayed for only one beer because we were going to the Village Casino for chicken wings. The Casino was not very busy but we also did not get there until after 7:00. We all ordered beers and lots of wings with blue cheese dressing and they were hot, fresh from the fryer and good. We stayed until 8:30, said goodbye to Linda and Ron, then took our time cruising home on a dark, dark lake, no moon, lots of stars, guided only by the shore lights. It's been awhile since we have been on the lake when it is so utterly dark. It was easy to pick out our area because of the spotlight next door but trying to find our dock is difficult because of the blinding spotlight. We took our time, finally able to pick out our dock and tied it up, happy to be home. We then sat on our front porch, Ron and I sipping some Maker's Mark on the porch. We finally went up to be around 10:30, all of us tired from our busy day.
