It's a mostly cloudy morning, with slashes of pink, lots of gray sky and lake. It's 58ยบ and we should have a sunny day with a slight chance of rain later in the day.
Yesterday was a day of rest for both of us. We knew we were going out at 7:00 to a 50th-anniversary party, so we spaced our meals out so we could attend the party. We had a long coffee laced morning, listening to all the pundits talking about the tragedy at Charlottesville, Virginia, the lack of criticism of the White Supremacists by Trump. It pushed North Korea, its threat out of the news for a day or two even though the threat remains. That's the way the news works.
Around 10:30, we did get the attic finalized, putting away a few kilims in storage bags, moving a few things around so that now we can get in easily and find something if we want. And we did another major watering of Evie's garden and finished the privets, using lake water from our sump point. Once we got the hose going, Evie decided I needed a hair cut, so we took a chair outside, and she trimmed me, taking time off to move the hose in between snips.
By 1:00, it was dock time for Evie, nap time for me and I finally had a good one. Maybe my knack for napping is back! I finally finished my book, BEL CANTO, by Ann Patchett. I did not like it as much as I thought I would, wondering when the end to the kidnapping by terrorists of 58 people would come. I joined Evie on the dock around 3:00 or an hour then came in and realized the PGA was on TV so I watched the final nine holes, as Justin Thomas won his first Major.
We left for the party at 7:00, first dropping off my Pilot at Ray's Garage, then driving over to Bemus Point. It was taking place at the Lawson Center, a nautical and boat museum, which sits right on Chautauqua Lake.

Judy And Fred And Grandson August |
We got to know Fred and Judy, who were celebrating their 50th because Fred and I played basketball together and Judy is an artist whose work we enjoy. They have been over for dinner, had us over to their home in the Chautauqua Institution.

The Bride, 50 Years Ago And Now |
They live in Davidson, NC, during the winter and take advantage of much of what Davidson College has to offer. It was a fun party, and their daughter and a friend made an amazing panoply of pastries, each one better than the next. In fact, Evie had to get a recipe for one of the cookies. We knew a few people there, hung out on the deck with Charlie and Wendy, enjoying dessert, sipping wine, as the sun set.

And we got to meet new people, most who live in the CI, one couple who we have talked to each fall when we go for a walk through the CI on Sundays, both retired doctors who travel extensively.

Evie At Sunset |
We stayed till 9:00 and got home in time to watch the end of THE DEFIANT ONES, a documentary of the genius of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. We loved the series and if you like modern music, this is a must because, between the two of them, they worked with and discovered most of the greats, an amazing duo.
