Where Went The Sun

Purple Martins

The Ladies
I was up at 6:00, in time to see the orb of sunrise above Long Point, its rays muted some by the thin veil of clouds. And within 10 minutes the sun disappeared, the sky turned gray and that's the way I find it an hour later as I begin my blog at 7:15.  No one is stirring, not even a grandchild, so I sit by my lonely, listening to the singing of purple martins drown out the voice of Morning Joe.

Yesterday we took it easy, as the Albarrans recovered from a 20-hour drive from Dallas to the lake.  Everyone but me slept in until 8:30, some until 9:30.  I was up at my usual time and kayaked before anyone got up.  Mitchell, then Marisa were the first to come downstairs and immediately jump on their devices.  By 10:00, everyone was up and Mitchell was the first to start breakfast, making fried eggs for both he and his father.  Beth and I followed, so breakfast was easy.  Evie had also cut up a cantalope and watermelon and both were devoured, as everyone seemed hungry, understandably after a long drive.

Hand Standing
We started moving around noon, Mitch and his Dad driving off to the Turner gym to workout, the rest of us drove to the Chautauqua Institution for a short walk, get some books at the library and do some shopping at Pat's and the bookstore.

With Virginia And Paul With Their Labs
As we walked, we met up with a couple from PA who mentioned that they were familiar with our blog and had even hiked a number of the hikes we had taken in the past year.  They were up for the weekend with their two Labs and it was nice talking with them.  We did not get back until 2:30 and all of us were exhausted from our outings.  Rami, Marisa, and I took naps, the rest hung out and Evie started to prep dinner, an eye of round beef roast.  By 5:00, everyone was starting to get hungry, so we had some snacks, got out the wine, and sat on the front porch.

Mom And Son Paddle
Because the sun came out, Beth and Mitch went for a kayak paddle across the lake and back.  It started to cloud up just as they returned.  And as we finished up our wine, Marisa entertained us with her gymnastic routine.

Marisa Rising
Dinner was great and everyone seemed famished, the boys going back for seconds and thirds of the roast beef.  Mitch helped Evie with the salad, and there was little of the roasted cauliflower left by the time we finished dinner.  We spent dinner talking about the week, what we wanted to do, when and where we wanted to go out to eat.  Tonight it looks like the Ellicottville Brewery as Evie and I have to drive to Buffalo in the afternoon to pick up a mouth guard from the dentist.

Dinner With The Gang

Finishing Up A Big Bowl Of Salad
Everyone helped clean up the kitchen, and the boys settled down in the TV room and watched most of the Golden State destruction of the Cavaliers, not fun;  Evie, Marisa, and Beth played some Pounce.  Evie was the first to head upstairs around 10:00 and the rest followed around 10:30, an early evening for all of us.

State Champions, Richie And JP
Finally, it was an exciting weekend in Columbus, Ohio, for my sister Linda and her husband, Rich, as their grandsons, Richie and JP, both seniors at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, led their high school volleyball team to their first State Championship by beating the State's top-ranked team in three straight games.  Exciting.
