I was up at 5:30, alas, just as the light was beginning to seep into our bedroom. I came downstairs, turned on the coffee and went outside to take a photo. I then settled down, listened to a TED talk and occasionally would trot outside again, to take another photo of the changing sky, as clouds seemed to come and go, the sun playing hide and seek. It's 54º and we should have a decent day as the rain does not descend upon us until tomorrow.
Yesterday was an expensive day, so what's new. It began with kayak surfing, sort of, for a half hour, then a drive to Lakewood for Yoga. Before I left, we received a call from our Amish chair make, on Wellmann Road, to say our two Adirondack chairs and table were ready. So after yoga, I drove out to his farm, dropped off a check and put the chairs and table into my Pilot and drove home. The chairs are folding Adirondacks, made out of polywood and we did have some trouble opening them up. Obviously, there's a trick to it. After a few tries, we finally opened them and I wheel barreled them out to the dock. They look great, not white but ivory, and are comfortable and we have no fear that the wind will blow them off to the dock because they are quite heavy. So that was expense # 1.
I had an easy lunch as Evie had made some corn chowder in anticipation of our granddaughter Marisa's arrival tonight; it's her favorite soup. So I snuck out a bowl and made a bagel with cream cheese for lunch. About 1:30, Cory our plumber arrived with two new Gerber toilets. He knew we were worried about cost, so he put in both in record time, saving us on labor. He's a good guy and like most of our plumbers loves to talk. So now we have two new toilets. Cool beans, new toilets, just what we have always wanted!
We were not very energetic much of the day despite the arrival of Beth and family Sunday early. It's not very Evie like. But we got some things done, working in the yard, cleaning and straightening the bedrooms and I washed the car around 4:30, just before it was time for a beer or glass of wine on the dock in our new chairs. Evie did not feel like fussing with dinner so she pulled some frozen spaghetti and meatballs out of the freezer, made a salad and we had dinner. We watched some of the news until we could stand the repetition no longer, then watched two more episodes of HOUSE OF CARDS. For some reason, we are not into it like we have been in the past. Either we have changed, the world's changed, or the show is losing its way.
