Slush, Rain, Perhaps Snow

I was up at 7:00, just in time to listen to Only A Game and watch the gray, gray morning sky lighten a bit but stay gray, as is the lake, with streaks of melting white snow.  It's a toasty 33º and we should stay in the 30's the rest of the week, perhaps dropping to the high 20's at night, neither winter nor spring.

Yesterday we got a slow start, or at least I did because of getting up so late, a result of my not getting home till 1:00 in the morning from the NCAA tournament in Buffalo.  I actually felt pretty good and though we did not do much early, around 11:00 because it was such a bright sunny day, with blue skies, but cool, we decided to walk the Chautauqua Institution, thinking Long Point would be too difficult because of the foot deep snow.  So we drove of the the CI and had a pleasant walk, many of the roads still snow covered.  We wore our clamp ons to avoid slipping and did a modified loop of a couple of miles.  Afterwards, we drove to Linda and Ron's, to take another walk through their rapidly growing new house.  Lots of progress and they should be in it by June.

We were home by 12:30, in time to start watching some basketball and have a lunch of beans and potato soup, pork chops and sauerkraut, leftover from Tuesday night's dinner.  By 1:30, my late night was starting to catch up with me so I took a good hour nap, waking refreshed and ready for a fun St. Patty Day's Night. We thought about Steener's Irish Pub but it seemed a bit to wild.  It opened at 9:00 in the morning!

So at 6:00, in daylight unfortunately, we drove over to the Viking Club, to a crowded parking lot.  We walked in and quickly took the only two seats left at the bar.  The dining room was as busy as we have seen it, with lots of couples as well as families enjoying their corned beef and cabbage.  We were lucky enough to see three or four couples that we knew, so we had a fun hour enjoying a beer or two and talking, first to our snowmobile friends, Randy and Karen, who told us they have had their snowmobiles up to 80 mph on some of the trails and 100 miles an hour when they have been on the lake. Scary.  They usually ride their snowmobiles to the club but not yesterday because there was not enough snow.  We also met Barb and Dana who became our friends when Barb painted our upstairs. Evie and Barb became good friends during the process and we have been out with them and often see them when we go to the Viking Club.

And we ended up having dinner with Dawn and Doug, a couple who we have gotten to know well, and they have been to our home for dinner.  Doug is a retired history teacher, Dawn a homemaker, and both are staunch supporters of the Viking Club, always involved in activities and on the Viking Board.  Evie and I had the corned beef dinner, Doug and Dawn the pork chops, and we figured out we were compatible, politically, a problem recently with all the polarity across the US.

We did not get home till 9:00 and were the last one's to leave the club except for a few at the bar.  We had enough time to watch part of  the British series THE FALL before I almost fell asleep so I went up to read and sleep, the end to a surprisingly fun St. Patrick's Day.
