No Post Super Bowl Blues

7:04

The sky is starting to brighten above the lake at 7:00, a bright light or two out on the lake, fishing guys I assume.  It's 24º out and mostly cloudy, though no snow is expected today but rain and 50º temperatures tomorrow.  I am still high from the Patriots comeback last night in the Super Bowl. Brady is amazing, the best ever I think.   I wonder what football fans will do for the next seven months?

Yesterday was spent, like most Americans, waiting for the Super Bow.  Not really but it's impossible to ignore the game, as every news or sports channel was talking about it.  And Fox Sports had a lead in to the game starting early afternoon.  What can you talk about for four hours?  We had our usual Sunday morning, sipping coffee, reading the paper,  our leisure occasionally interrupted by ridiculous tweets from Trump.   We wanted to get some exercise, realized that Red's Pancake House was open, so we decided to drive out towards Clymer and snowshoe the French Creek Preserve.  Much of it skirts French Creek, in a lovely wooded area and we had a great first half of a hike until Evie developed a blister on her heel.

So the return was a bit tortuous, as we had to walk through woods and tramp through foot deep fields of snow to get back to our car.  Fortunately, a plate full of buckwheat pancakes, two sausages and maple syrup were a balm to Evie's sore heel.  The owners of Red's have gotten to know us by now as do the servers, so it was fun to see and talk to everyone again.

We were home by 1:30 and then drove over to our friends, Linda and Ron, to walk through their new house which is now fully underway.  We were able to get a good idea of the floor plan since most of the walls are up.  It's going to be an amazing home once its finished and we are happy for them.  We then drove home and literally wasted the rest of the afternoon, watching the pre game or napping or for Evie, writing three valentine cards on FELT to our grandsons, all three now in college.

We planned our steak, mushroom, baked potato and salad dinner for 6:00, so we would be finished cooking before the start of the game.  It was great and I had mine along with a Southern Tier One Buffalo micro beer.  We then spent the next four hours watching the game and most of the commercials for once, hoping to see a good one.  Like most viewers, we hoped for a good game and for three quarters, it looked like an Atlanta blowout.  But then, momentum changed, the Patriots had a spectacular comeback and to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's dismay, the Patriots won.  Goodell, then, had to swallow his pride and present the trophy to the owner, coach and player he had disciplined at the start of the season.  Sweet revenge for the Patriots. We actually stayed up to watch the entire game and overtime. It was worth it.

In his own words:  "There are a lot of killers. We've got a lot of killers. What do you think? Our country's so innocent?"
