Three Sisters In Dallas

Three Sisters And Me
It's 8:00 at the moment and I have been up since 6:40.  Since it is Saturday, everyone is still sleeping, no doubt enjoying the rain on the roof.  It's 47º and it looks like a rainy Saturday here in University Park, not that I am complaining as we have had great weather the past week.

Yesterday was a busy day for all of us, with Marisa in school, Rami at work, the rest of us left at home to get ready for a visit from Evie's two sisters, Jean who lives outside of Dallas, near Denton, about forty five minutes away and Claire, in from Scottsdale for a week.  Our main baker and lead cook was Tyler who, along with Evie, had made a marvelous chocolate malted cake for the three sisters' dinner last night.

Le Gateau
While Evie and Beth vacuumed and started organizing, I loafed and took Cody for a walk.  Around noon, Tyler, Evie and I took a drive to Central Market, mostly to pick up some micro brew for Tyler and the makings for Naan, but we ended up buying enough goodies to fill a small cart.  It's hard to walk through that store and not buy something.

My Fav - Hopochondria
We were home around 1:30, and I had noodles for lunch, as we had lots left over from last night's dinner.  We had most everything ready for the sisters, who arrived just after 3:00, bearing a couple of bottles of nice wine.  It was great to see them, and we relaxed with cheese, crackers, and some wine and talked until dinner time, catching up on all their lives, those especially of their children and grandchildren.  What else do grandparents talk about other than their health and prescriptions.

Grillin The Naan
While we talked Tyler, with Marisa's help, was putting together the dough for Naan, knowing it had to sit and rise for a good two hours.  Also, we were having breaded pork chops so Evie had already breaded them, browned them and had them ready to put in the oven, so there was little prep for dinner other than baking some potatoes, roasting asparagus and waiting for Tyler to finish grilling the Naan on the grill, which he did around 6:00.  Rami was home early, which was nice.

Pork Chop And Naan Dinner
Dinner was great, of course, as breaded pork chops were always the favorite in Evie's house growing up.  But the Naan was the hit of the night, as most preferred it to the baked potatoes, so it looks like we will be having potatoes for breakfast.

Ready For Cake
After dinner, we had the cutting of the malted cake, a delicate operation because of its three layers and the fact that most were still full from dinner and wanted thin pieces.  Tyler did a masterful job of cutting it, however, and it was just as good as it looked.  We only wished we could have eaten more than one piece but our better angels said enough. It was a good way to end the evening, and also a chance for Marisa and Tyler to get to know their aunts who they rarely get to see.  We said good bye around 8:30, quickly helped Beth clean up the kitchen and then went up to the TV room with Tyler to watch a couple more episodes of FX's FARGO.  I hope we can finish the season today.
