Where Went The Sun

Drew and Jill Bissell And Their Daughters, Hayden and Halle
I begin today with a salute to my son-in-law Drew, an Army veteran and his family, in fact, all the veterans and their families for their selflessness and service to our country.

I was up just before 6:00 and sat here sipping my coffee, listening to the radio, as the dark, threatening fall sky opened up before me, a harbinger of the long winter to come.  It's windy but a surprising 50ยบ outside. It's a big day as the plumber comes to give our heating system its yearly checkup and later in the day, Evie gets her new oven and microwave.  As my buddy Mac would say, Yippee.

Thursday was a typical fall day, changeable and unable to predict, with winds, sun, clouds and calm. We were in no mood to be productive for some reason, so we did not get much done during the day. For Evie, it was a day of getting our kitchen ready for a new range and microwave and fixing up our bedroom with a new bedspread and shams.  It actually looks like a bedroom in a magazine, a long way from our mattress on the floor our first year at Western Reserve Academy.  I went to a good Yin yoga, always good, always crowded, with most of the people regulars, a  good sign for the studio.  I then stopped for a coffee and  drove to Home Depot to pick up a flexible dryer extension and on to Wegman's for the third time in five days, to get a few things to make a special dinner in our new oven today and, perhaps, a loaf of black bread tomorrow.  Yum.

Kayaking In The Afternoon
Our afternoon dragged on because neither of us was energetic, so we wasted much of it watching TV, taking a nap, reading, or surfing the Internet for deals.  Lunch was the last of the lentil soup and a schnitzel sandwich.  I finally got fed up with myself around 3:00 and because the lake had become becalmed for the moment, I went kayaking, a good idea.  The wind stayed down, the sun popped in and out, and it was calming to be once again out on the lake, in the present, no worries.

Dusk Begins
We were going out to dinner for the Thursday night ribeye special with the Mc Clures who picked us up at 6:00.  The Seezurh House was busy for a Thursday night which was nice to see.  We worry about it because of the new restaurant that opened down the street.  All four of us ordered the special and we were happy at last, sipping our beer, enjoying our steak, salad, and potato.  As we left, we ran into our favorite librarian from the Smith Library, recently retired, Deborah and her husband, who were celebrating their 31st anniversary at the Seezurh, the place of their first date.  Cool beans.

With Our Favorite Librarian, Deborah And Husband Bill
We were home by 9:00, ready for bed, at least I was, tired from getting up  early.  But I stayed up long enough to watch the cheesy DESIGNATED SURVIVOR and HBO's Vice News, a nightly news program which I highly recommend as it's much more in your face and emphasizes the world as much as the US.
