Rain In Maine

Breakfast With Tyler, Our Grandson, A Senior At Dartmouth College
Morning In Southwest Harbor
It's 8:00 and I am just getting around to writing my blog on this rainy morning in Southwest Harbor Maine.  I walked uptown to the small local grocery,  Sawyer's Market, open at 5:30 for some reason and bought milk, yogurt, Lucy's granola (it looked good), and a couple of cups of coffee to go.  When I got back, Evie was just waking so I brought her coffee upstairs so she could relax in bed.  I then enjoyed my coffee until she came down, then drove off to the local food pantry cafe, The Common Good Cafe, for coffee and a popover.  I then took a couple of photos of the harbor, all grays, and came home to enjoy some popover, coffee and yogurt with granola.  We love our residence, Central Cottage, recommended by my sister Ellen who has stayed here a few times over the years.

With Tyler, Dartmouth College Green
We started yesterday with an aloha to our good friend Mac in Woodstock and drove to Dartmouth College, in Hanover, NH, a short 30 minute drive.  We were meeting Tyler at Lou's Diner and it was packed so we were lucky to get a table.  Tyler arrived on time, and all three of us had great breakfasts. It was great to see him since the last time we were together was at Thanksgiving.  He's doing well, in his senior year in engineering and working on his final project.  It sounds like he's a busy boy this, his final year.  We breakfasted for an hour and then said good bye as he had things to do.  What a good boy!

We then had to make up our mind to take the short or long way to Southwest Harbor although neither was that short.  So we decided to take back roads, across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, mainly RT 2.  It was a mistake as the road was surprisingly busy, the drive slow and very long and it took us probably an hour or two longer than if we had gone via the highways.  And it was not that striking once we got out of New Hampshire, as the land was less mountainous and green in Maine. We finally arrived in Southwest Harbor around 5:30, found our cool little cottage, quickly unpacked and relaxed.

Welcome To Maine on Rt. 2
We were really tired after our drive, so we decided to head up town, a few minutes walk.  We tried to get into Sips, my sister's favorite restaurant but it was packed and the bar, where we wanted to sit, was also packed.  So we walked down to the restaurant we went to last time we were here, The Dry Dock, sat at the empty bar unfortunately, but within 10 minutes, it was full and we struck up a conversation with an interesting couple to my right.  They have a home in Bangor and also here in Southwest Harbor.  They are beer aficionados, and he even makes his own beer and grows his own hops.  They gave us some good ideas on where to hike (stay on this side, away from the busy Bar Harbor side), and mentioned a couple of good local restaurants to go to.  When our food came, Evie's a lobster roll, mine mussels marinara over pasta, we stopped our conversation until we left. The guy talked the whole time we were eating to his friend or wife.  Evie asked me if I thought they were married. I replied, "No way."  When she said, Why?  I said 'Because she was listening to him!"

Our Abode, Central Cottage
We said aloha, they gave us a few more tips, and we walked home happy to be here, to return to our cosy cottage, fire up our wifi and devices and relax before going to bed at 10:00, early for us but we were tired.
