Invite Them And They Will Come

Another striking morning sky, the clouds stacked and huge early, and now, it's mostly blue skies, bright sun and a coolish 60ยบ.  It's the start to a fun weekend as Evie's three sisters are flying in later today, from Chicago, Dallas, Texas and New York City for the Labor Day Weekend, for an adult only, no kids weekend for the first time ever.

Yesterday was another busy day, especially for Evie, as it always is the day before company arrives. It was a good day to work inside, however, as it poured much of the morning, not clearing up till late afternoon.  We must have gotten at least an inch of rain.  I went to a good yoga class with Jen and hurried home because I was to help our friends, Linda and Ron, unload their van as they have moved up to the lake for good.  When I got home, the kitchen was a mess, as Evie was busy making a couple of soups for the weekend, some baklava, and getting things ready for her sisters.  I quickly helped by cleaning up the kitchen, had a quick lunch before driving over to Mayville to help unload the truck, an easy task.  After that, I drove to Tops in Mayville to pick up a few items we forgot on our mega shopping trip on Wednesday afternoon.  On the way home, I stopped at Smith Library, in the Chautauqua Institution because Deborah, one of the veteran librarians, was retiring and I wanted to bid her adieu and thank her for her kindness, always a smile whenever we stopped by to pick up a  book.

The rest of the afternoon was spent either relaxing or doing stuff in the kitchen, getting ready for the weekend.  It was not particularly pleasant outside until about 4:00 when Evie went out for a quick swim.

Clearing Up At 4:15
We were going out to dinner to the Seezurh House with the McClures, so we had to be ready for them to pick us up by 6:30.  We were the only ones in bar eating dinner, alas, a slow night at the Seezurh House and we ran in to a couple of old neighbors, Pete Shore and Joe Deault.  All four of us had the rib eye special for 12.99, our usual and it was just what we wanted, tender and tasty.  We wonder how they do it as rib eyes are at least 12 dollars a pound  or more in the grocery store.  We talked about the move, what it takes to empty a house, how hard it is to get rid of things, which is what Ron and Linda have been doing for the past few weeks, emptying their house in Pittsburgh, getting ready for their move.

We were home in time to the build up to the Donald's speech in Phoenix and listened to the pundits dissect his meeting with the President of Mexico, whether it was good or bad for him.  It's horrifying to learn that the gap between Hillary and Trump is diminishing.   I was able to listen to about ten minutes of his address before I had to leave the TV room, disgusted and saddened, and went upstairs to read.  Books are wonderful escapes from reality.
