Cooling Off, Finally - Infinity Music Program, Jamestown, NY

A Night Out In Jamestown

Woke up at 6:00 to darkness, a few slashes of light over towards the East.  The heat and humidity seem to have gone, a high today only in the 60's.  We had heavy thunderstorms, winds, and lightning overnight and a tree limb came down in our front yard, alas.  It is not something we wanted to come home to last night after some carousing in Jamestown, listening to a couple of bands and drinking some beer.  So this morning, I have my work cut out, borrowing someone's chain saw, then hauling the branches up the hill.  Happy Sunday.

Sunday Work
We began yesterday with breakfast at the Chautauqua Harbor House (Stedmans was unexpectedly closed) with friends from the CI, the Gregorys.  They were heading home this week, so we wanted to get together with them before they left.  We had a good breakfast, especially mine, eggs benedict.  It was the first time we have eaten in the refurbished Dick's Harbor House, with new owners and a new name and it's fine.  Nothing spectacular, just good, solid food.  We vowed to see each other again in November when they return for a week.  We will have to see if that works out as neither of us are very good at keeping up.

We were home by 11:00 and it was time to gather trash and take it up to the Transfer Station.  It was an easy day as we had little trash from the week as things are slowing down around here.  Neither of us were very hungry and because of the big breakfast, neither of us felt very ambitious so we spent the rest of the day the way we spent most of the week, either on the dock, sunning and swimming, or in the house, reading, napping or watching TV.  I did watch some football, as both Ohio State and my alma mater, Ohio University were on TV.  Both won although the Ohio State game had to be delayed because of weather.  And I was excited to see the Bobcats beat Kansas, in Lawrence, 37-21, a big win for the MAC.

I joined Evie on the dock around 4:00,  read some, enjoyed the breeze which kept the 80ยบ day cool enough to enjoy being outside.  We both swam around 5:00, the water surprisingly cold but clear as it was in June.  We then  got ready to drive to Jamestown, to attend the Infinity Music Benefit.

We knew a storm was brewing but figured we could enjoy the venue, stay inside when the storms finally arrived.  Which is what happened.  We listened to a couple of  bands before going to dinner at Taco Hut.

Mango Margarita, Gratis
We sat at the bar of course and like last time, the bartender made the wrong drink for a customer, a mango margarita, so she gave it to Evie.  Evie likes this place, especially the Mexican pizza with portobellos.

Rockin At Mojo's
Afterwards, we went to Jamestown biggest music venue, Mojo's, a dive with great music, luckily found a seat at the bar despite the crowd and listening to the bands along with the packed house, waiting out the storm.

Thunderstorms In Jamestown
When it settled down, we drove home in a drizzle, as the worst was over...we thought.  When we got home, pulled into our driveway, we saw a tree limb was down in our front yard.  There was not much we could do but look at it with dismay, then turn on the TV, watch some junk shows, trying to forget what was sitting in our front yard, then go to bed.  Not the end to a good day we had expected.  But hey, it did not hit the house and we were safe. It could have been worst.  "Life is trouble," as Zorba would say.
